IndiGo is an Indian airline whose flight numbers carry the code 6E. It describes itself as "India's largest airline", and it sells an economy cabin and a business cabin called IndiGoStretch.

At Delhi, IndiGo has announced that the terminal you use depends on your flight number, and IndiGo also flies from Noida International Airport (DXN), Hindon Airport (HDO) at Ghaziabad and, near Mumbai, Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI). Its Lite fare, on sale since 1 July 2026, includes a cabin bag but no checked baggage.

IndiGo terminals at Delhi and Mumbai

Delhi: Indira Gandhi International Airport

At Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), IndiGo's terminal depends on the flight number. IndiGo announced on 21 October 2025 that from 26 October 2025, flight numbers 6E 2000 to 6E 2999 would use Terminal 2, flight numbers 6E 5000 to 6E 5999 and all international departures would use Terminal 3, and all other domestic flights would use Terminal 1.

IndiGo's terminal information page, which carries no date, lists Terminal 1D for domestic flights and Terminal 3 for international flights at Delhi, with no flight-number split, so check the terminal for your own flight before you set off.

Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), the airport operator's undated airline list shows IndiGo at Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, for domestic and international flights. Check which terminal your flight uses before you travel.

Changing terminals on an IndiGo connection

IndiGo's terminal information page says that where a journey arrives at one terminal and leaves from another, the airport authorities provide a shuttle between terminals, bags are checked through, and the transfer time is built into the schedule. IndiGo says it does not connect to other airlines and is not responsible for losses when a passenger tries to connect to or from another airline.

IndiGo fares and what each includes

IndiGo announced a new set of fares on 28 January 2026: Saver, Flexi and UpFront in economy, and Stretch and Stretch+ in the IndiGoStretch cabin. It added a Lite fare on 1 July 2026, for travel from 15 July 2026.

IndiGo's fare-rules page also describes a Flexi Plus fare, and its pages do not all use the same fare names. The rows below use the wording of IndiGo's January 2026 release unless they name another IndiGo page, so read the inclusions shown for your fare when you book.

FareWhat IndiGo says it includes
LiteOn IndiGo's Lite page: one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and no checked baggage. No complimentary meal; a seat is assigned free, and a preferred seat is chargeable.
Saver"Best value fares, classic comfort seats", in IndiGo's January 2026 wording.
FlexiA choice of seat, a complimentary snack and "hassle-free cancellation".
UpFrontFront-row seats with extra legroom, a complimentary snack and "hassle-free cancellation". IndiGo's fare-rules page puts UpFront in the front two economy rows, with a complimentary meal, an extra 5 kg of baggage allowance and free changes more than 72 hours before departure.
StretchThe IndiGoStretch cabin, with "more space, more privacy along with chef-packed meals and end-to-end priority services".
Stretch+The IndiGoStretch cabin, with "added baggage allowance, hassle-free cancellation and complimentary lounge access".
Flexi PlusOn IndiGo's fare-rules page: a complimentary standard seat, a complimentary meal, lower change and cancellation fees and discounted prepaid excess baggage. IndiGo's Lite page also lists Flexi Plus among its higher fares.

The Lite fare

Lite is sold on IndiGo's own channels (its website, app, contact centre and 6Eskai chat) for direct, non-stop journeys. It is not available on connecting, group, code-share, unaccompanied minor or special-fare bookings, or for infants.

A Lite booking cannot be upgraded online, but IndiGo says it can be upgraded to UpFront or IndiGoStretch at the airport or on board. Checked baggage can be bought after booking, up to 15 kg in one piece on a domestic flight.

The IndiGoStretch cabin

IndiGoStretch has recliner seats with more legroom, a vegetarian meal box, advance seat selection at no extra charge, priority check-in and anytime boarding, and a power outlet at each seat. IndiGo's January 2026 release lists an added baggage allowance for Stretch+. On IndiGo's seat and aircraft information page, the Stretch cabin appears on some Airbus A321 layouts and not on its A320 or ATR layouts, so check that your flight has it before you book.

An economy booking can be moved to Stretch only by cancelling it and rebooking in the Stretch cabin. If IndiGo downgrades a Stretch passenger involuntarily, its Plan B message offers a partial refund with an economy seat on the same flight, an open-flight option, or a full refund.

Changing or cancelling soon after booking

IndiGo has a Look-in window: for 48 hours after booking on IndiGo's website, you can change or cancel without a fee, paying any fare difference. It is not available on a domestic booking when departure is within 7 days.

IndiGo also sells add-ons such as Zero Cancellation, 6E Fare Hold, IndiGo Switch (a change of date), Fast Forward (priority check-in and anytime boarding) and 6EBagport, a doorstep baggage service.

Student, senior citizen and armed forces fares

IndiGo sells a student fare, a senior citizen fare for travellers over 60 on domestic flights, and an armed forces fare for serving and retired defence and paramilitary personnel and their families. The student and senior citizen fares are booked on the website only, and for the armed forces fare a military identity document is checked at check-in.

Meals on IndiGo flights

IndiGo provides complimentary drinking water on all flights, and meals can be pre-booked on its website. Hot snacks and beverages are not available on ATR aircraft or on any flight with a total flight time of less than 60 minutes.

Checking in with IndiGo

For domestic flights, IndiGo's check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and it reserves the right to cancel the reservation of a passenger who misses these times.

Web check-in is free from 48 hours to 60 minutes before a domestic flight. A boarding pass does not guarantee boarding unless you meet these times, and IndiGo's conditions of carriage ask for a valid itinerary, printed or as a screenshot, at check-in.

Web check-in is not available for an unaccompanied minor booking, for medical passengers or a passenger on a stretcher, for a booking paid with an international credit or debit card, or for a connecting journey with a leg beyond the 48-hour window. Airport kiosks need no registration but cannot print a boarding pass once the counters have closed.

Photo identity for an IndiGo domestic flight

IndiGo's conditions of carriage ask passengers, including those travelling with infants or children, to show an original photo identity document at check-in. The documents listed include a passport, a voter photo identity card, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a Permanent Account Number (PAN) card issued by the Income Tax Department, a driving licence, a service photo identity card from a government, a public sector undertaking, a local body or a public limited company, a student photo identity card from a government or government-recognised institution, a nationalised-bank passbook with an attested photograph, and a pension card or document with a photograph. A passenger with none of these can show an identity certificate from a Group A Gazetted Officer, on official letterhead, with an attested photograph.

IndiGo's travel-documents page accepts an Aadhaar or a driving licence held in DigiLocker's "Issued Documents", among others, but not a document you uploaded to DigiLocker yourself. A name or title that does not match your identity document can lead to denied boarding, and if you paid by card, carry the card, a copy of it or a statement.

Infants and minors travelling with a parent need no identity proof of their own, but an unaccompanied minor does. An infant needs proof of age at check-in: IndiGo's infants page lists a birth certificate, the mother's hospital discharge summary, a vaccination certificate or a passport.

Foreign nationals on IndiGo domestic flights

IndiGo's travel-documents page says a passport, with at least six months' validity, is the only valid photo identity for a foreign national on a domestic flight. The same page says a foreign national travelling to Imphal International Airport (IMF) needs a Protected Area Permit issued by the Home Department of Manipur after approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs, and that IndiGo may deny boarding without it. For the government's side of the rule, check with the Ministry of Home Affairs or the nearest Foreigners Regional Registration Office.

IndiGo baggage allowance

IndiGo's cabin baggage page says baggage requirements are different for every flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check those before you fly. The allowances below are IndiGo's as of October 2026.

Cabin baggage on IndiGo

IndiGo currently allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, no larger than 55 x 35 x 25 cm and 115 cm in total, including handles and wheels. IndiGo's Baggage Policy also allows one personal article of up to 3 kg, duty-free purchases included, such as a purse, a laptop or a small infant bag when travelling with an infant.

Cabin bags go in the overhead bins or under the seat, subject to space, and a bag that cannot be stowed safely in the overhead bin because space is limited may be checked in. If a bag is over-sized or over-weight, IndiGo may move it to the hold before take-off, and if it is moved for excess weight, you pay for the excess weight.

Checked baggage on IndiGo

IndiGo's baggage allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person, effective 1 October 2020, with a maximum of 23 kg in any one piece, and shows no separate figure for each fare. IndiGo's Lite page says Lite includes no checked baggage, its fare-rules page says UpFront adds an extra 5 kg, and its January 2026 release describes Stretch+ as having an added baggage allowance. Check the allowance on your booking.

A checked bag may not exceed 158 cm in length, width and height combined. On an ATR, it may not exceed 152 cm long, 58 cm wide and 101 cm high.

Power banks and spare batteries

IndiGo's Baggage Policy permits power banks and spare lithium batteries in hand baggage only, not in the overhead bins or in checked baggage, and its cabin baggage page says they must not be used, charged or recharged during the flight. For the limits on size and number, check IndiGo's baggage pages before you fly.

Travelling with an infant

IndiGo's Baggage Policy counts a small infant bag as the personal article of up to 3 kg, while its baggage allowance page lists one hand bag for an infant, so check the allowance on your booking. That page lists no checked baggage for an infant, and one stroller or pram per infant carried without charge.

Children and expectant mothers on IndiGo

Children flying alone

Under IndiGo's unaccompanied minor rules for domestic flights, a child under 5 must travel with someone over 18. A child of 5 to 12 years, as IndiGo's page puts it, must travel with a companion aged 18 or over or be booked on IndiGo's Flying Solo service, and a minor of 13 to 18 can travel alone or use Flying Solo.

The child reports to the airport ticket counter at least 2 hours before a domestic departure, where a signed form naming the adult who will meet them is completed at check-in, and on arrival is released only to that adult after an original photo identity check. A through booking on IndiGo with a stopover of under 6 hours is accepted, but a stopover of more than 6 hours, a night halt or a transfer to another airline is not.

Infants

IndiGo carries infants aged above 3 days and under 2 years on the date of travel on an adult's lap, and no extra seat can be booked for them. Only one infant is allowed per adult, and IndiGo caps the number of infants on each flight, with a lower cap on an ATR than on an Airbus A320.

Expectant mothers

IndiGo accepts a passenger with a normal pregnancy up to the end of 36 weeks if there were no prior complications, and a Fit to Fly certificate from the treating obstetrician, dated no more than 7 days before travel, is needed only between the 32nd and 36th weeks. With a multiple pregnancy the limit is the end of 32 weeks, and the certificate, dated no more than 3 days before travel, is needed only between the 28th and 32nd weeks. A complicated pregnancy is not accepted beyond 32 weeks, and it needs the certificate between the 28th and 32nd weeks and medical clearance by the company doctor.

Delays, cancellations and Plan B

IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, you can take a full refund or rebooking onto another IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability. Its Plan B service, for a flight that is cancelled, brought forward by 1 hour or more or postponed by 2 hours or more, lets you rebook on a different flight at no additional cost or take a full refund. Once Plan B has been used, further changes or cancellations are chargeable under IndiGo's terms.

IndiGo says it notifies eligible passengers by text message, email and phone call on their registered contact details, and that compensation for a cancellation or delay is processed under Civil Aviation Requirement Section 3, Series M, Part IV, and that a passenger who gave no valid contact details at booking may not be entitled to compensation. IndiGo lists weather and air traffic control among the circumstances beyond its control.

IndiGo's aircraft

IndiGo's aircraft and routes page lists "the Airbus A320 CEO & NEO, the A321 NEO and the ATR 72-600". The ATR 72-600 is a turboprop, and IndiGo has some rules of its own for it.

On an ATR, IndiGo's conditions of carriage say all seats are non-reclining and the first and second rows are the emergency exit rows. Its Baggage Policy says weapon bags are not allowed on ATRs, and that carrying a firearm, an air gun or ammunition on them is prohibited, in hand or checked baggage.

IndiGo BluChip loyalty programme

IndiGo's loyalty programme is IndiGo BluChip, with tiers named Blu 1, Blu 2 and Blu 3. Members earn base and tier-bonus BluChips on flights, and IndiGo's tier page lists 6E Prime passes and discounts on Seat Select, Excess Baggage and Fast Forward at the higher tiers.
