Taxis and autos at Pondicherry Airport

According to the Airports Authority of India, the Puducherry Tourism Development Corporation (PTDC) arranges pre-paid taxis from a counter at the airport. India's aeronautical information publication also lists shared taxis and autos at the airport.

Pondicherry Airport's terminal and facilities

According to AAI, the airport's centrally air-conditioned terminal building was constructed in 2013. The facilities AAI describes include drinking water coolers, mobile charging points, baggage trolleys, and wheelchairs, ramps and toilets for differently abled passengers.

AAI also describes a tourist information centre run by the PTDC, with information on places to visit in Puducherry.

The same publication lists first aid at the airport and hospitals in the city, and puts hotels, restaurants, banks and a post office in the city, about 4 km from the airport.

The French Colony, the Sri Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville

Incredible India, the Ministry of Tourism's site, describes the French Colony, also called the White Town, as an old French residential area of cobblestone streets and yellow houses, with streets such as Rue Dumas, Rue Romain Rolland and Rue Suffren. It also names the historic building housing the French consulate.

The Government of Puducherry describes the town's Franco Tamil architecture and its planning on the model of a "bastide".

Incredible India describes the Sri Aurobindo Ashram as a spiritual community founded in 1926 by Sri Aurobindo and the Mother, and as a centre of yoga and meditation. It names Auroville, which houses the Matrimandir, as an experimental centre nearby.

Incredible India's list of attractions in Puducherry also names the Puducherry Museum, the French War Memorial, Raj Nivas, the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Eglise de Notre Dame des Anges, Arulmigu Manakula Vinayagar, Arikamedu, Chunnambar Boat House, and Ousteri Wetland and National Park.

Flying IndiGo from Pondicherry Airport

IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a customer does not keep to its check-in timelines.

IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Its allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.

A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check yours.

IndiGo's conditions of carriage say that on unconnected flight segments it is not responsible if a customer misses the flight to the final destination because of a delay to the IndiGo flight, and that it provides no compensation or facility in that case.

Identity documents, liquids and power banks

Under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of valid photo identity documents, a passenger carries any one of them in original, with a valid ticket, at entry to the terminal building. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document on the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does, and airlines may ask for more, so check with IndiGo.

Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only and not in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. IndiGo sets its own limits on their size and number, so check its baggage pages before you fly.

Delays, cancellations and passenger rights

Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to meteorological conditions.

IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.

The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.

You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal. The CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
