Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD) is at Hansol, 9 km north of central Ahmedabad, Gujarat, and is named after Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, India's first Deputy Prime Minister. Ahmedabad International Airport Limited, a company managed by Adani Airport Holdings Limited, runs it under a 50-year concession from the Airports Authority of India (AAI) that took effect on 7 November 2020. The operator describes it as Gujarat's busiest airport by passenger traffic.
The operator's notice says that from 29 March 2026 Air India and Air India Express flights operate from Terminal 2 instead of Terminal 1, and the operator lists IndiGo and Akasa Air at both terminals. Check your booking for the terminal before you set off.
The operator's notice says that from 29 March 2026 Air India and Air India Express flights operate from Terminal 2 (T2) instead of Terminal 1 (T1), and asks passengers to check with their airline for the departure and arrival terminal before they travel. The operator's airline information page gives these terminals, as of October 2026:
| Airline | Terminal listed by the operator |
|---|---|
| IndiGo | T1 or T2: check your booking |
| Air India | T2 (from 29 March 2026) |
| Air India Express | T2 (from 29 March 2026) |
| Akasa Air | T1 or T2: check your booking |
| Star Air | T2 |
| SpiceJet | T2 |
The operator lists IndiGo and Akasa Air at T1 and T2 without saying which terminal a given flight uses, so check your booking or ask the airline.
A free shuttle runs between T1 and T2 around the clock, on a schedule displayed at the airport. Follow the signs to the shuttle pick-up point at either terminal.
The operator advises arriving two hours before a domestic flight and four hours before an international one. Passengers who have not checked in online can check in through DigiYatra or at a self-check-in kiosk, then drop their bags at the self-baggage drop or at the check-in counters. Check your airline's own check-in deadline as well.
DigiYatra is a process for entry, security and boarding that uses face pods at the Digi Yatra gate and the security checkpoint, run through the DigiYatra app from the Digi Yatra Foundation. As the operator's DigiYatra page sets out, you go to the Digi Yatra gate at T1 or T2, where a face pod checks you before security, pass a second face pod at the security checkpoint, then board yourself at the departure gate. Check the app for who can enrol before you rely on it.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document under the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does, and airlines may ask for more.
Foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight. A passenger on an international flight carries a passport.
The CISF restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag, with medicine or an inhaler carried with a prescription, and baby food, as exceptions. Satellite phones and drones are not permitted in hand or checked baggage, and the hand baggage allowance differs by airline, so check your airline's own rules, including those for power banks.
Buses, taxis and app-based cabs serve the airport. Taxi and car-rental pick-ups are at both terminals, and auto rickshaws wait at the pick-up points of T1 and T2 around the clock.
On arrival, pre-arranged transport is reached in the multi-level car park, while taxis, app-based cabs and shuttle services are right outside the terminal.
The operator names bus routes 15 and 18 at T1, linking the airport with places including 132 Feet Ring Road, Iskon Cross Road, Maninagar and Ahmedabad Junction Kalupur Railway Station. It refers passengers to the bus operator's own website for route details. A complimentary shuttle runs between T1 and T2.
The nearest railway stations, as the operator names them, are Ahmedabad Railway Station and Sabarmati Railway Station. The operator does not list the metro among its transport options. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) lists its Phase 2A airport extension as under implementation.
The operator lists parking at T1 and T2, general parking for arrivals and departures, and valet parking. You can pre-book online: choose a package, pay, and scan the code you receive at the parking counter. Parking is charged by time, and vehicle access to the departure drop-off has charges too.
The operator's lounge page lists these lounges:
Each is listed as open 24 hours, but closed every Wednesday from 11:00 to 13:30 for maintenance, so plan around that window if you are counting on a lounge. The lounges have a self-service buffet, free Wi-Fi and newspapers. The lounge page may predate the March 2026 terminal move, so check with the airport or your airline which lounge you can use for your flight.

Travellers flying to Bagdogra to go on to Sikkim face permit rules that differ for Indian citizens and foreign nationals. The Government of Sikkim says foreigners must obtain an Inner Line Permit (ILP) to visit Sikkim, and that foreign nationals need a Restricted Area Permit (RAP) for all of Sikkim, with citizens of Bhutan exempt from the RAP.
The state adds that Overseas Citizen of India cardholders need the RAP too. It says nationals of Pakistan, Nigeria, China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Myanmar need prior approval from the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs.
Indian citizens need no RAP for Sikkim, but the state requires a Protected Area Permit from Indian and foreign nationals alike for its border and protected areas. For Indian nationals, the state's page lists a valid Indian passport, a voter identity card, an Indian driving licence or a Central or State Government identity document as proof of nationality, with two passport-sized photographs. The state says an Aadhaar card is not accepted as proof of nationality.
The DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023, sets what airlines provide when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding (check the DGCA site for a later revision). Passengers who checked in on time get meals and refreshments when a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of 2.5 to 5 hours, or four hours or more on a longer flight. When a flight is cancelled, the airline offers an alternate flight or a refund, and passengers who were not told in time are offered either an alternate flight or compensation, in addition to a full refund.
The CAR does not require compensation for a cancellation, or meals and a hotel for a delay, where the cause is an extraordinary circumstance beyond the airline's control that could not have been avoided with all reasonable measures; the CAR also says an airline is not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks. Passengers who gave no phone or email contact at booking are not owed compensation for a cancellation either. You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court.
The operator lists Air India, Air India Express, Star Air and SpiceJet at T2, with Air India and Air India Express there from 29 March 2026. IndiGo and Akasa Air are listed at both T1 and T2, so check your booking or ask the airline for your flight.
The operator advises arriving two hours before a domestic flight. Check your airline's own check-in deadline as well.
Ahmedabad airport has DigiYatra gates at T1 and T2, for passengers enrolled in the DigiYatra app. The operator's DigiYatra page directs passengers to the Digi Yatra gate at T1 or T2, with face pods at entry and at the security checkpoint. Check the DigiYatra app for who can enrol.
Not as listed by the operator: the GMRC lists its Phase 2A airport extension as under implementation. Taxis, app-based cabs, auto rickshaws and buses serve the airport.
Not between 11:00 and 13:30: the operator lists its lounges as closed every Wednesday for maintenance in that window and open 24 hours otherwise.
