SpiceJet (airline code SG) calls itself a low-cost airline. Its rules for a domestic booking are set out below: the terminal at Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad, check-in and boarding cut-offs, identity documents, baggage, the SpiceFlex and SpiceMax add-ons, and the rules for infants, children, expectant mothers and passengers who need assistance.

They are SpiceJet's own, from its Terms of Carriage, its Citizen's Charter and its help pages. Check them with SpiceJet before you fly.

SpiceJet terminals at Delhi, Mumbai and Ahmedabad: what to check

In Delhi, the flights recorded for SpiceJet use Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL), and in Mumbai they use Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM). Both airports have more than one terminal, so check which one your SpiceJet flight uses.

Delhi: Indira Gandhi International Airport

SpiceJet's own pages give different terminals for its domestic flights at Delhi. Check the terminal on your booking or with SpiceJet before you set off for the airport.

Mumbai: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport

SpiceJet's airports list gives Terminal 1 for its domestic flights at Mumbai and Terminal 2 for its international flights, and the airport operator's airline list also names both terminals for SpiceJet. Mumbai's airport operator announced on 3 October 2026 that it will redevelop Terminal 1 in phases from January 2027. If your SpiceJet flight is to or from Mumbai, check the terminal on your booking.

Ahmedabad and SpiceJet's other airports

At Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport (AMD), SpiceJet's airports list and the airport operator's airline list both put SpiceJet at Terminal 2. For Bengaluru and the other airports recorded for SpiceJet, check the terminal with SpiceJet.

SpiceJet check-in, boarding and identity documents

SpiceJet's airport check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure for all flights, and SpiceJet advises passengers to arrive at least two hours before departure. Web check-in for domestic flights closes 60 minutes before departure, and SpiceJet's help pages highly recommend it. Unaccompanied minors cannot use web check-in.

Boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. SpiceJet's Citizen's Charter says it may deny boarding and cancel the reservation without refund or compensation if you miss the boarding deadline, and a passenger who does not report on time is treated as a no-show, with the booking cancelled and the fare retained.

SpiceJet's help pages say you need your flight itinerary and a photo identity document to enter the airport. Its Terms of Carriage list these documents for domestic flights:

  • a valid passport
  • a valid driving licence
  • an Election Photo Identification Card
  • Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar
  • a PAN card issued by the Income Tax Department
  • a photo identity card issued by the employer (government or reputed private sector organisations)
  • for children, a school identification card or any other photo identification proof
  • for infants, a valid birth certificate, the mother's hospital discharge summary, a vaccination certificate or a passport
  • a nationalised bank passbook with an attested photograph
  • a pension card or pension document with the passenger's photograph
  • a Disability Photo Identification Card or a handicapped medical certificate issued by a state or union territory government or administration

The Terms of Carriage say that for foreign nationals on domestic flights the only valid photo identification is a passport. SpiceJet's Citizen's Charter says passengers without valid identification cannot be accepted for boarding.

SpiceJet baggage allowance on domestic flights

Cabin baggage

SpiceJet allows one piece of hand baggage of up to 7 kg free of charge. The size limit depends on the aircraft: 55 x 35 x 25 cm (115 cm in total) on its Boeing flights and 50 x 35 x 23 cm (108 cm in total) on its Q400 flights. SpiceJet's Citizen's Charter says hand baggage goes in the cabin subject to space in the overhead bins, and an oversized or overweight bag is taken as checked baggage and returned on the arrivals belt.

SpiceJet's documents read differently on a handbag or laptop bag. Its Citizen's Charter says a lady's handbag or purse may be carried free of charge in addition to the hand baggage, while its Terms of Carriage say laptop bags or ladies' purses can be carried alongside it as long as the combined weight stays within 7 kg, so check with SpiceJet before you pack a second bag.

Both documents say a passenger travelling with an infant may carry an extra piece of hand baggage of up to 7 kg, within the same dimensions. The Citizen's Charter also says infants are not entitled to a separate baggage allowance.

Checked baggage

SpiceJet's baggage terms, marked effective 24 October 2020, allow one piece of free checked baggage of up to 15 kg on domestic flights, within 158 cm in total (length, width and height). Check the baggage included in your fare when you book. The Terms of Carriage give the same 15 kg and 158 cm, and each bag must also stay within 32 kg, which SpiceJet gives as the airport's baggage restriction.

SpiceJet says special baggage such as sports equipment, golf bags and bicycles carries a handling charge per piece when checked in on domestic flights. Check your ticket and SpiceJet's baggage terms before you fly.

Alcohol and power banks

SpiceJet's baggage help pages allow up to 5 litres of alcoholic drinks in retail packaging in domestic checked baggage. Its Terms of Carriage also say alcoholic drinks may not be carried from or into Bihar, Gujarat, Tripura, Mizoram, Nagaland, the Union Territory of Lakshadweep or any other state considered a dry state. That includes SpiceJet's flights to and from Darbhanga in Bihar.

The Terms of Carriage say power banks, portable mobile chargers and spare batteries go in hand baggage only, not in checked baggage, and may not be used, charged or placed in the overhead bins during the flight. A power bank found in a checked bag at X-ray means the bag will not be loaded.

SpiceFlex, SpiceMax and other SpiceJet add-ons

SpiceJet describes SpiceFlex as a bundled fare with more flexibility, including preferred seat selection and a waived change fee. The change fee is waived only for a change from one SpiceFlex fare to another, any fare difference still applies, and SpiceJet's normal cancellation policies apply. SpiceFlex is sold on spicejet.com and through travel agents, but not on group bookings and not at SpiceJet's reservations desk or airport ticketing offices.

SpiceMax is a paid seat upgrade. SpiceJet lists extra space between seats, a meal with a drink, priority check-in at dedicated counters where available, quicker boarding and priority baggage delivery on arrival, on select aircraft only and with limited seats.

SpiceMax seats cannot be cancelled once booked, although SpiceJet refunds the seat charge if the booking is cancelled. Pre-booking a SpiceMax seat closes 1 hour before a domestic departure.

SpiceJet's add-ons menu also lists a senior citizen discount, a student discount, an extra seat, and options for Indian Armed Forces personnel and government employees. Check the conditions of any of these with SpiceJet when you book.

Infants, children and expectant mothers on SpiceJet

SpiceJet carries infants above 7 days and below 2 years old on the travel date, on a parent's or guardian's lap, with one infant per adult. An infant below 7 days old needs medical authorisation from a physician, and infants may not travel unaccompanied. The Terms of Carriage accept a birth certificate, the mother's hospital discharge summary, a vaccination certificate or a passport as proof of age; without one, the applicable fare is charged, subject to seats being available.

The Terms of Carriage say children under 12 need adult accompaniment, and SpiceJet's unaccompanied minor service accepts children aged 5 to 12 travelling alone. The form is completed and signed before departure, printed copies go to the ticketing counter, both the parent or guardian and the child need valid photo identification, and both must be at the departure airport at least 2 hours before departure. SpiceJet does not accept an unaccompanied minor whose connection needs an overnight stay.

SpiceJet's Citizen's Charter treats children aged 12 to 15 as Young Passengers who can travel alone on most flights, and parents may ask for the unaccompanied minor service for them.

SpiceJet's Citizen's Charter and its special assistance page accept expectant mothers up to and including 36 weeks of pregnancy, with a doctor's certificate from 28 weeks confirming the stage of pregnancy and fitness to fly, valid for 2 weeks; from 37 weeks they may not fly. SpiceJet's Fitness to Fly guidelines instead list a single uncomplicated pregnancy of 36 weeks and above as not fit to fly, and 28 weeks to 35 weeks and 6 days as fit with a certificate from the treating gynaecologist. Both documents set stricter conditions for a multiple or complicated pregnancy, so check with SpiceJet before you book if you are 28 weeks or more pregnant.

Special assistance on SpiceJet

SpiceJet's special assistance rules say a wheelchair with an attendant is free within the airport and to and from the seat. An ambulift is charged for, is available only in selected cities, and needs 72 hours' notice.

Guide dogs travel in the cabin with 48 hours' notice, but SpiceJet does not accept guide dogs on flights operated on its Q400 aircraft. Portable oxygen concentrators of approved models need 48 hours' notice by email, and a stretcher case needs 48 hours' notice and is not accepted on international routes.

SpiceJet says its onboard staff cannot help with personal care.

SpiceJet's Boeing and Q400 rules, and SpiceClub

SpiceJet's baggage and assistance rules name Boeing and Q400 aircraft, and some rules differ between them: the cabin bag size, and guide dogs, which SpiceJet does not accept on its Q400 flights. SpiceJet's frequent flyer programme is SpiceClub.
