Agatti Airport (AGX) is on the island of Agatti in the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) runs it. A Lakshadweep Administration notification dated 9 October 2026 calls it "the only airport serving the Union Territory of Lakshadweep". India's aeronautical information publication puts the airport about 5 km south of Agatti township.
The Lakshadweep Administration says every visitor to Lakshadweep needs an entry permit, and that it must be held at the time of boarding the ship or flight. The direct domestic flights recorded from Agatti go to Bengaluru and Kochi with IndiGo.
The airline recorded on these flights is IndiGo. Direct domestic flights recorded from Agatti go to:
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Bengaluru | Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) | IndiGo |
| Kochi | Cochin International Airport (COK) | IndiGo |
The Lakshadweep Administration's e-Permit portal says every visitor must obtain a valid entry permit before travelling to Lakshadweep. Its frequently asked questions add that you must have a valid permit issued by the Administration at the time of boarding the ship or flight, so the permit has to be in hand before you board for Agatti.
According to a notice on the Administration's old e-Permit portal, applications go through the new e-Permit portal from 15 October 2026. The new portal says a tourist permit is valid for up to 30 days from the date of issue and can be renewed for an additional 30 days.
Rules for foreign nationals differ from those for Indian citizens, so check them with the Lakshadweep Administration before booking.
According to AAI, auto rickshaws and a ferry to Bangaram Island are available. India's aeronautical information publication says autos are available in the town.
India's aeronautical information publication lists a first-aid room at the airport, and hotels, restaurants, banks, a post office and a hospital in the town. According to AAI, a medical facility and wheelchairs are available at the airport.
The Lakshadweep Administration is acquiring land at Agatti Island for the expansion and development of the airport towards the northern side of the island. In a notification dated 9 October 2026, it extended the period for the next step in that process by six months, to 11 April 2027, and said the social impact assessment studies had been completed.
The Administration lists water-sports equipment at the Agatti unit of the Society for Promotion of Nature Tourism and Sports (SPORTS), Lakshadweep's tourism body, including glass-bottomed boats and kayaks. It says Kadmat, Kavaratti and Bangaram have facilities for scuba diving.
Agatti is the airport stopover from Kochi on the way to Bangaram, which can be seen on the island's northern horizon, according to the Administration. SPORTS says liquor is prohibited on all islands except Bangaram.
The SPORTS travel tips say that picking up coral in any form, or harming marine life in any way, is an offence punishable by law.
IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a customer does not keep to its check-in timelines.
IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Its allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.
A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check yours.
IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.
Under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of valid photo identity documents, a passenger carries any one of them in original, with a valid ticket, at entry to the airport. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them, and an unaccompanied minor needs one too. Airlines may ask for more, so check with your airline.
Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only and not in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Check IndiGo's own baggage pages for its limits on power banks before you fly.
Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to meteorological conditions. IndiGo says that if you give an SMS-capable mobile number at booking, it will tell you of a change to your flight in advance by SMS, and it sends the revised itinerary by email.
The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.
You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal. The CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
