Pune International Airport (PNQ) is a civil enclave run by the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in Lohegaon, Pune, in Maharashtra.
Air India describes one integrated terminal. Maha-Metro's station list has no station at the airport, and the ways to the airport that Air India lists are all by road.
The terminal at Pune International Airport
Air India's airport page says Pune has one integrated terminal, the New Integrated Terminal Building (NITB), and that Air India runs its domestic flights from it. AAI's project page says the old and new terminal buildings were integrated, unified by a cityside canopy.
The Free Press Journal and the news agency UNI reported on 10 September 2026 that a renovated part of the old terminal building was waiting only for final clearance from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security before opening to passengers. Check your booking or your airline's own airport page for where to check in.
Air India's check-in counters are in front of gate D, and its ticketing office is between gates D1 and D2. The airline's page also lists self-check-in kiosks in the departure check-in area and a self-baggage-drop service.
Identity documents and security screening at Pune
At terminal entry you show a valid ticket and one original photo identity document from the list the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes. That list includes a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence. For an international flight, the CISF list asks for a passport.
Under the CISF list, an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines can ask for more, so check with yours. Foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.
Air India's airport page says Pune is DigiYatra enabled, with Gate 01 dedicated to DigiYatra users.
The CISF restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage in small quantities needed for the journey, in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.
Under Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) guidance, power banks and spare lithium batteries go in hand baggage only. Check your airline's own rule on battery size, how many you may carry and use in flight.
Getting to and from Pune airport
Air India's airport page lists prepaid taxis, app-based cabs and hire cars. It gives the pick-up area as outside arrivals, at the multilevel car park (MLCP) in Aero Mall.
A Pune Pulse report of 23 March 2025 said an express lane had been introduced for feeder buses taking arriving passengers from the arrival gate to the cab pick-up zone at Aero Mall. Agree the pick-up point with your driver or cab app before you leave the terminal.
Maha-Metro's station list has no station at the airport.

A planned new airport at Purandar
The Maharashtra Airport Development Company (MADC), the nodal agency for the project, describes a new greenfield airport planned near Pune at Purandar. Its page says the development plan is in an advanced stage, and names the company formed for the project as Pune (Purandar) International Airport Limited. The same page calls the existing Pune airport "already over saturated", and gives no date for construction or opening.

Delays, cancellations and your rights
What airlines provide when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, is set by the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and in force from 15 February 2023. Check the DGCA site for a later revision.
Passengers who checked in on time get meals and refreshments when a delay is expected to reach:
- two hours or more, on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours
- three hours or more, on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to 5 hours
- four hours or more, on a longer flight
On a cancellation the airline offers an alternate flight or a refund. Passengers who were not told in time are offered either an alternate flight or compensation, in addition to a full refund.
The meals and refreshments above are not required where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances. The CAR also does not require compensation where weather, air traffic control, security risks or other causes beyond the airline's control lead to the cancellation or delay. You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court.
