Star Air (S5) is a regional airline and, in its own words, "the aviation arm of Sanjay Ghodawat Group". Its head office is in Bengaluru (Bangalore), and it flies Embraer jets with business and economy cabins.

What a Star Air ticket includes depends on its fare: the checked allowance, meals and seat selection differ between fares, so read the fare on your ticket before you pack.

Terminals and airport names to check

Mumbai

At Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) in Mumbai (Bombay), Star Air lists its counter as "L161, Dep Terminal 1 Gate 1", and the airport's undated airline list shows Star Air in Terminal 1. The airport's operator has announced a partial redevelopment of Terminal 1, and terminal arrangements at the airport are being changed. Check the terminal shown on your booking, and with Star Air, before you set off for the airport, and check that your booking shows BOM.

Bengaluru

At Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR), Star Air lists its counter as Counter 27 in Terminal 2.

Delhi area: Hindon

The Delhi-area airport in Star Air's recorded routes is Hindon Airport (HDO) in Ghaziabad, which is a separate airport from Delhi's airport. Star Air's own announcements have labelled it "Hindon (Delhi)" as well as "Hindon (Ghaziabad)", so check that your booking shows HDO.

Goa: Mopa

Star Air's recorded Goa flights use Manohar International Airport (GOX) at Mopa, which Star Air calls "Goa (Mopa)". Goa's airport at Dabolim is a different airport, so check the airport code on your booking.

Airport names in Star Air's announcements

Star Air sometimes names an airport by a nearby city or another spelling. Kishangarh Airport (KQH) appears as "Ajmer (Kishangarh)", Adampur Airport (AIP) as "Adampur (Jalandhar)", and Jindal Vijayanagar Airport, Vidyanagar (VDY) as "Vidyanagar".

Star Air fares and what each includes

Star Air's economy fares are Star Regular, Star Flexi and Star Comfort, and its business fares are Business Regular and Business Flexi. Its fare rules, in force from 16 September 2026, set what each one includes.

FareChecked baggageMeals and drinksSeat selection
Star Regular15 kgBuy on boardChargeable
Star Flexi15 kg in Star Air's conditions of carriage; check your ticketBuy on boardChargeable
Star Comfort20 kgIncludedIncluded
Business Regular20 kg in Star Air's conditions of carriage; Star Air's fare rules carry a note that a 20 kg allowance does not apply on some sectors; check your ticketIncludedIncluded
Business Flexi20 kg in Star Air's conditions of carriage; Star Air's fare rules carry a note that a 20 kg allowance does not apply on some sectors; check your ticketIncludedIncluded

Cabin baggage is one bag of up to 7 kg on every fare. Star Air says meal service is subject to availability on bookings made within 12 hours of departure. It describes Star Comfort as including priority baggage, and its business fares as including priority check-in and boarding.

Changes and cancellations

Star Air's fare rules show a change fee on Star Regular, Star Flexi and Star Comfort, lower on Star Flexi than on Star Regular and lower again on Star Comfort. Star Air's home page says Star Flexi includes one free first date change, and its pages describe Business Flexi as including a free first change, with any fare difference payable in both cases.

No changes are permitted in the last two hours before departure, and a cancellation in that window is non-refundable. A passenger who does not show up gets back only the applicable taxes. A booking cancelled within 24 hours of being made, for travel more than 7 days away, carries no cancellation fee.

Check-in and identity documents

Airport check-in for Star Air opens 2 hours before departure, and Star Air advises reporting to its counter at least 2 hours before. The counter closes 60 minutes before departure, and boarding gates close 25 minutes before. Star Air's conditions also ask passengers who have checked in online to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before departure.

Web check-in is on starair.in, and Star Air sends an e-boarding permit to the registered email address. Check your booking and starair.in for when web check-in opens and closes.

A passenger who is not at the gate 25 minutes before departure is treated as a gate no-show, and Star Air says it is not obliged to reach out to a missing passenger. Star Air may consider a late check-in after the counter has closed, at designated airports and for a fee, but says this is not guaranteed.

Star Air's conditions of carriage make a valid photo identity document mandatory at check-in and the other formalities before boarding. The documents they list include a passport, Aadhaar, a driving licence and an Election Photo ID, and any other valid identity card issued by the State or Central Government. Star Air may deny boarding to a passenger who cannot show valid photo identification issued by the State or Central Government.

Star Air baggage allowance

Under the fare rules in force from 16 September 2026, Star Air currently allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg on every fare, and a laptop counts towards that weight. Only one piece of hand baggage is accepted in the cabin, though Star Air's conditions list items allowed in addition to it, such as a handbag, a camera, an overcoat, reading material and medicines needed during the flight.

Star Air charges excess baggage on a cabin bag found to be overweight at the boarding gate. Hand baggage goes in the overhead bin or under the seat, if there is space, and an oversized or overweight bag may be moved to the hold before take-off and collected at the baggage belt.

Checked baggage depends on the fare: Star Air's conditions of carriage give 15 kg on Star Regular and Star Flexi, and 20 kg on Star Comfort and both business fares. Its fare rules carry a note that a 20 kg allowance does not apply on some sectors, so check the allowance on your ticket. Infants have no free baggage allowance, though infant food, a carrying basket and a feeding bottle may be taken on board.

In cabin bags, liquids go in containers of up to 100 ml, packed in a transparent resealable 1-litre bag, with an exception for medicines and inhalers accompanied by a prescription. Power banks are allowed only in hand baggage, and Star Air does not accept small lithium battery-powered vehicles, such as hoverboards and balance wheels, as baggage.

Infants, children, pregnancy and special assistance

Star Air treats a child under 2 on the date of travel as an infant, and does not carry infants younger than 7 days. An infant travels with a companion over 18, one infant per adult, and needs a valid ticket, check-in and a boarding pass, with proof of age at the airport. Passengers carrying an infant cannot sit in an emergency exit row.

Star Air's unaccompanied minor service is for children from age 5 and under 12. Staff meet the child at check-in, escort them through security and onto the aircraft, and hand them over on arrival only to the person named to collect them, after identification. To arrange it, contact Star Air's call centre or check-in counter with the flight number and date, the child's name and age, and the name and contact details of the person accompanying or meeting the child.

Children under 5 cannot travel alone, and must fly on the same flight and in the same class as a companion aged at least 18. Star Air's conditions also say minors with disabilities such as blindness, deafness or mutism will not be permitted to travel alone, and minors are not accepted on journeys that need a transfer to another airline unless special arrangements exist.

Star Air's pages set limits on flying during pregnancy by week, ask for a doctor's fitness-to-fly certificate from 28 weeks, and do not allow travel above 35 weeks. Check the current rule with Star Air before you book.

Passengers who need special assistance are asked to notify Star Air, and to pre-book a wheelchair at least 48 hours before departure. Without that notice the service may not be available, and the passenger may be refused carriage except as the law requires. These passengers check in at the airport counter, as Star Air does not let passengers who need a special service or use assisting equipment use online check-in.

Delays and cancellations on Star Air

Star Air's conditions of carriage say that if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than two and a half hours (depending on the length of the journey), a passenger can choose a refund or a rebooking on another Star Air flight at no additional cost, subject to availability. Star Air says this follows the rules of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA). A passenger claiming compensation under the DGCA's rules writes to Star Air's customer care from the email address registered on the booking.

Star Air says it will try to give at least two weeks' notice of a cancelled departure and offer another flight or a refund. With less than two weeks' notice, and up to 24 hours before departure, it will try to arrange a substitute flight leaving within two hours of the scheduled departure, and passengers already at the airport who wait for it get free meals and drinks. None of this applies if the booking has no valid contact details, and Star Air does not regard a trade partner's contact details as enough.

Star Air says it is not obliged to pay compensation or provide facilities when a delay or cancellation comes from extraordinary circumstances beyond its control that could not have been avoided even with all reasonable measures, such as air traffic control, environmental conditions or security risks. Its conditions list things it does not treat as beyond its control, including a bandh or strike, a bird strike, crew delayed by road congestion, security congestion at terminals and a late incoming aircraft.

Star Air's aircraft

Star Air's fleet page lists the Embraer ERJ 175 (E175) and Embraer ERJ 145 (E145) jets, along with Airbus helicopters. Star Air says the E175 operates on selected routes and asks passengers to check the aircraft type for their route when booking. In December 2025 it described a two-class cabin, business and economy, with seats in a two-by-two layout across its Embraer fleet.

Star Air's charter service offers its Embraer jets and Airbus helicopters for private hire.

About Star Air

Star Air belongs to the Sanjay Ghodawat Group, which was founded in 1993, and began commercial operations in 2019. Its airports page names M/S Ghodawat Enterprises Pvt Ltd as the company running its airport counters.

Star Air describes itself as a participant in the Government of India's UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik) initiative, and said in December 2025 that it was moving beyond UDAN routes. It began operations at Jindal Vijayanagar Airport in November 2025, announced new direct and one-stop services involving Ahmedabad and Diu starting on 15 January 2026, and announced direct flights between Kolhapur and Mumbai on 3 March 2026.
