Allahabad Airport (IXD), also called Prayagraj Airport, serves Prayagraj (formerly Allahabad) in Uttar Pradesh. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), it is about 12 km from Prayagraj city and 11 km from Prayagraj Junction railway station.
The direct domestic flights recorded from Allahabad Airport go to Bhubaneswar, Mumbai, New Delhi and Hyderabad with IndiGo, and to Mumbai with Akasa Air.
According to the Airports Authority of India, the airport's owner and operator is "Airports Authority of India/IAF" (the Indian Air Force), its licence status is "IAF Controlled Airport", and the civil terminal is next to an Indian Air Force base. The Prayagraj district administration calls it Bamrauli Airport.
AAI says the airport was built in 1919 and served as an international airport until 1946, with direct flights to London until 1932.
On 27 January 2025, during the Maha Kumbh at Prayagraj (13 January to 26 February 2025), the Ministry of Civil Aviation said a new terminal had been brought into use at the airport and the old terminal had been reconfigured. The same release said parking, check-in, baggage belts and boarding gates had been expanded.
According to AAI, a city bus service run by City Transport Prayagraj is listed for the airport, so check its times with the operator. AAI also lists car rental and an interstate taxi or car service at the arrival hall.
According to the Airports Authority of India, parking at the airport is paid and is on the city side.
According to the Airports Authority of India, the airport's facilities include:
The airlines recorded on these flights are IndiGo and Akasa Air. Direct domestic flights recorded from Allahabad Airport go to:
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Bhubaneswar | Bhubaneswar Airport (BBI) | IndiGo |
| Mumbai | Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) | IndiGo, Akasa Air |
| New Delhi | Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) | IndiGo |
| Hyderabad | Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) | IndiGo |
Akasa Air sets its own check-in, baggage and travel rules, so check them with Akasa Air or on your booking.
IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a customer's reservation for not keeping to its check-in timelines.
IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Passengers travelling with an infant are allowed an additional piece of hand baggage.
IndiGo's allowance page gives 15 kg of checked baggage per person on domestic flights. A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close.
IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight, and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details. Check yours before you pack.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at entry to the terminal building. A passenger needs any one of them in original, with a valid ticket, and a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them. On the CISF list, an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does, and airlines may ask for more, so check with IndiGo.
Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported dense to very dense fog over parts of Uttar Pradesh in the week to 14 January 2026. Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to meteorological conditions. IndiGo says it sends advance notice of a change by SMS if you gave a mobile number at booking, and emails the revised itinerary.
The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.
If IndiGo cancels a flight, brings it forward by 1 hour or more, or postpones it by 2 hours or more, its Plan B page lets you rebook on a different flight at no additional cost or take a full refund. You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, and the CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
