Akasa Air (airline code QP) flew its first commercial flight on 7 August 2022. This page sets out its rules for a domestic booking: which airport and terminal to expect around Delhi and Mumbai, check-in and boarding cut-offs, identity documents, baggage, fares, and the rules for infants, children and expectant mothers.
The rules are Akasa Air's own, from its website pages; the terminal lines come from the airport operators and Akasa Air's route pages. Check them with Akasa Air before you fly.
Akasa Air flights are recorded at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and at Noida International Airport (DXN), and at Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) and Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI). Check which airport your booking names before you set off.
Delhi airport's own airline list puts Akasa Air at Terminal 1, and Akasa Air's page for its New Delhi to Mumbai route says its flights usually fly from Terminal 1. Akasa Air also tells passengers to double-check the terminal on their ticket at Delhi and Mumbai. The Terminal 1 advice is for Indira Gandhi International Airport only, not for Noida International Airport.
Mumbai airport's own airline list names both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 for Akasa Air. Check the terminal on your ticket before you go to the airport. Navi Mumbai International Airport is a separate airport, and this terminal advice does not apply there.
Akasa Air's route page for Bengaluru to Ahmedabad says those flights operate from Terminal 1 at Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR), and that Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 both handle domestic and international flights. For other Akasa Air flights from Bengaluru, check the terminal on your booking.
Akasa Air's Conditions of Carriage recommend arriving at the airport at least 3 hours before the scheduled departure. A passenger who has not checked in at least 60 minutes before the scheduled departure is treated as a no-show, the tag for a checked bag is issued no later than 60 minutes before departure, and Akasa Air may deny boarding if the check-in deadlines are missed.
Akasa Air's web check-in page says web check-in is open from 48 hours up to 1 hour before departure, and the Conditions of Carriage give the same 1-hour deadline for domestic flights. The web check-in page says it is not available to unaccompanied minors, passengers who need wheelchair assistance or passengers travelling with pets.
Under the Conditions of Carriage, boarding gates close 25 minutes before the scheduled departure, and passengers must be at the gate by the time given at check-in or in any later announcement at the airport. Akasa Air says it is under no obligation to make boarding announcements at airports designated as silent airports.
For a domestic flight, the Conditions of Carriage ask for one of these documents, carried in original, as proof of identity:
The Conditions also require an unaccompanied minor to show one of these documents. The Conditions add that a passenger who has none of them can use an identity certificate issued by a Group A Gazetted Officer of the Central or State Government, on official letterhead and with the passenger's attested photograph.
Akasa Air's DigiYatra page describes the service: you register in the DigiYatra app with an Aadhaar-linked mobile number, take a selfie and add your boarding pass, then use the e-Gate at the airport entry, the e-Gate before security and the scanner at the boarding gate. Akasa Air asks that the name on the boarding pass, the flight ticket and the Aadhaar card be the same. Check the DigiYatra app before you rely on it for your flight.
Akasa Air's baggage page currently allows one handbag of up to 7 kg and 115 cm in total (length, width and height) on domestic flights. The Conditions of Carriage give the size as 55 cm long, 35 cm wide and 25 cm high. The baggage page also allows one personal item that fits under the seat in front of you and weighs 3 kg or less.
The baggage page gives a domestic checked allowance of one piece of 15 kg per passenger, within 158 cm in total, and a single bag may not weigh more than 32 kg. Eligible passengers who bought a student fare can carry one bag of up to 25 kg on domestic flights.
The Conditions of Carriage say the free checked allowance, where one applies, follows Akasa Air's policy as communicated at the time of booking, so the allowance on your ticket is the one that counts.
Akasa Air's baggage page allows up to 5 litres of alcoholic drinks in checked baggage, in retail packaging and of not more than 70% alcohol, and says the limit does not apply to drinks of 24% alcohol by volume or less. Alcohol is allowed in cabin baggage only when bought in the airport's Security Hold Area, and passengers must also follow any other state or national regulations.
The same page allows up to five litres of holy water, including Zamzam, in checked baggage in a sealed, leak-proof container, and the water counts towards the checked allowance.
The Conditions of Carriage allow power banks and loose or spare batteries in hand baggage only, not in checked baggage, subject to security clearance: a maximum of 2 spare or loose lithium-ion batteries rated up to 100 Wh, or lithium metal batteries of not more than 2 grams. Power banks may not be used or charged during the flight or placed in the overhead bins, and their terminals must be taped or insulated.
Akasa Air's branded fares are called Saver and Flexi. Its Branded Fares page sets change fees, cancellation fees and no-show charges for domestic bookings, so check the terms of your fare before you book.
Akasa Air's special fares are for Armed Forces, Medical Professionals, Students and Senior Citizens.
Akasa Air sells optional extras including seat selection, an extra seat, excess baggage and pets on board. Its website lists the current options.
Akasa Air's Conditions of Carriage say infants up to 7 days old are not permitted to travel. An infant travels on an adult's lap, with one infant per adult.
The baggage page gives an infant one handbag of up to 7 kg and 115 cm in total and no checked baggage. One stroller or baby pram per infant is allowed without any charge.
Under the same Conditions, a child aged 5 to 12 travelling without a passenger aged 18 or over is an unaccompanied minor, and a child aged 2 to 5 must travel with a passenger aged 18 or over. An unaccompanied minor must be at the airport at least 2 hours before departure, a signed form is needed at Akasa Air's airport ticketing office, the minor and the guardian both show photo identity at check-in, and the guardian must stay at the airport until the flight leaves. The whole journey must be on Akasa Air flights, with any stopover of less than 6 hours.
The Conditions of Carriage accept a single, uncomplicated pregnancy up to 32 weeks. From the 33rd to the 35th week, the passenger needs an original Fit to Fly Certificate dated not more than 7 days before travel, and a passenger who has started her 36th week is not accepted.
For a multiple or complicated pregnancy, the Conditions allow travel to the end of the 32nd week with a certificate dated not more than 3 days before travel and clearance from Akasa Air's medical department. Between the 33rd and the 35th week, travel is not permitted.
