Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMI) is in Navi Mumbai, Maharashtra. It is a separate airport from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM), the other airport in the Mumbai (Bombay) region. Check which of the two your ticket names.

Commercial flights began on 25 December 2025, and Adani Airport Holdings announced Air India Express's first scheduled international service from the airport for 15 July 2026. IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express use Terminal 1. The airport is new and its services were still being added in October 2026.

Navi Mumbai International Airport and Mumbai's other airport

The Mumbai region's other airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport. The two are separate airports, and flights to and from each have their own route pages on this site.

Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, which manages Navi Mumbai International Airport, listed an inter-airport shuttle between the two airports, run by Cityflo, Aarya and Chalo, in its release of 5 October 2026 for the winter schedule (25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027). Check where to board it before you rely on it.

Mumbai Metro Line 8, between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport and Navi Mumbai International Airport, was described in the same release as proposed. The Maharashtra cabinet approved the line on 27 January 2026, ETV Bharat reported that day.

Terminal 1 at Navi Mumbai International Airport

IndiGo, Akasa Air and Air India Express are listed at Terminal 1 (T1). Air India Express is listed there for domestic and international flights, and IndiGo and Akasa Air for domestic flights.

The airport advises arriving at least two to three hours before a domestic flight and four hours before an international flight. You show your identity document at the entry gate.

Check-in and self-baggage drop

You can check in at a self-check-in kiosk or at a counter, or through DigiYatra where your flight is included (below). Self-baggage drop kiosks are in the Terminal 1 departures area at check-in islands A, B and C, and they print the boarding pass and the bag tag. Oversized items such as sports equipment and musical instruments go to the conventional counters.

Your airline sets the cabin baggage allowance, and it varies from one airline to another.

DigiYatra at Terminal 1

DigiYatra uses facial biometrics. You register in the Digi Yatra app with Aadhaar or DigiLocker and add your boarding pass for each trip, and a passenger who has not registered in advance can register at a kiosk at the airport.

On the day, you go through the Digi Yatra gate at Terminal 1, an e-gate at the face pod in the pre-security hold area and the face pod at the security checkpoint, then board at a self-boarding gate. It is for departing passengers, not arrivals.

DigiYatra may be limited to select domestic flights, so ask your airline whether yours is included. The airport's DigiYatra page sets out the current steps.

Security screening and identity documents

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them, and a passenger on an international flight carries a passport.

The CISF list says an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof does not need a separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.

In cabin baggage, liquids, aerosols and gels go in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag and taken out for screening. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions on the CISF list.

Airlines are advised, under an advisory circular of 11 November 2025 from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), to tell passengers to carry power banks and spare batteries in hand baggage only, not to put them in the overhead bin, and not to use or charge them in flight. Ask your airline about any further limit it sets.

Lounge and facilities

The Adani Silver Lounge is on Level 3 of Terminal 1, in the post-security hold area, for domestic departures, and is open 24 hours. The operator describes it as welcoming frequent flyers and loyalty guests, so check your entry terms before you go. Its facilities include a buffet, a bar, Wi-Fi, a baby care room, a workspace and a smoking zone.

Facilities at the airport include:

  • Information desks in arrivals, in departures and after security.
  • Wi-Fi, charging stations and ATMs.
  • A baby care room, a prayer room and a smoking room.
  • A buggy service and baggage trolleys.
  • Lost and found.

Wheelchair and special assistance

Request wheelchair assistance when you book or through your airline, and the airport also offers a pre-booked wheelchair assistance service. Wheelchair assistance desks are at the kerbside between Entry Gates 1 and 2 and between Entry Gates 3 and 4.

Help phones with braille signage are at the Terminal 1 kerbside drop-off, in arrivals, in the security holding area and in departures. A paid private mobility assistance service is offered to domestic and international passengers.

Arriving at Navi Mumbai International Airport

International arrivals go through immigration, with your passport ready, and a visa and arrival card where they apply to you, then customs (green and red channels), then baggage reclaim. Domestic passengers do not go through immigration, and screens show the baggage belt for each flight. The ATITHI app is offered for a digital customs declaration.

The arrival forecourt and the basement are for meeting people and for pre-arranged transport, which is reached in the multi-level car park. Taxis, app cabs and shuttles are outside the terminal.

Adani Airport Holdings set out the airport's ground transport for the winter schedule, 25 October 2026 to 27 March 2027, in its release of 5 October 2026. Several of the services in it were due to start in October or November 2026, so check that a service is running before you depend on it.

App-based operators include Uber, Ola, Rapido, Alyte, Allmiles and Aero link, and Uber Go and Uber Premier were due to offer rides with designated pick-up zones. Uber Auto picks up from a designated Auto Pickup Zone, and Bharat Taxi was due to start on 10 October 2026.

Suburban rail

Panvel Junction is a national rail hub for long-distance trains, and train times are on the Indian Railways website. The airport's transport page has the current options.

Parking

Terminal 1 has a multi-level car park with round-the-clock security monitoring, valet parking and pre-booking by QR code. Charges depend on how long you stay, and two-wheelers have their own tariff.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

The DGCA sets out what airlines offer when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach a set length.

The set length is two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to 5 hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not require these facilities where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided with all reasonable measures.

When a flight is cancelled, the airline provides for an alternate flight or a refund, and a passenger who was not told in time, and who gave the airline a phone number or email at booking, is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund.

Revision 4 does not require compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks, or caused by other circumstances beyond the airline's control. It lets you complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision, and your airline's current rules, before you rely on it.
