Darbhanga Airport (DBR) serves Darbhanga in Bihar. According to the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the airport belongs to the Indian Air Force, and AAI's passenger terminal there is an interim civil enclave, with a terminal building, on land leased from the Air Force. The Darbhanga district administration says the airport has been functioning since November 2020.
On 20 October 2024 the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone of a new civil enclave at Darbhanga Airport, according to a Prime Minister's Office release of that date. Direct domestic flights recorded from the airport are with IndiGo, Akasa Air and SpiceJet, and the table below shows which airline is recorded on each route.
Direct domestic flights recorded from Darbhanga Airport go to:
| Destination | Airport | Airlines recorded |
|---|---|---|
| Bengaluru | Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru (BLR) | Akasa Air |
| Mumbai | Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (BOM) | IndiGo, Akasa Air |
| New Delhi | Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) | IndiGo, Akasa Air, SpiceJet |
| Hyderabad | Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) | IndiGo, Akasa Air |
Check the airline's current schedule before you plan around a flight. Akasa Air sets its own check-in, baggage and travel rules, so check them with Akasa Air or on your booking.
The airport is at Ranipur, Darbhanga, according to AAI. The district administration's 2021 travel guidance names two railway stations in Darbhanga, the district headquarters: Darbhanga Junction and Laheriasarai. It also says buses run from the main roadways bus stand to the major cities.
IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure.
IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. IndiGo gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.
A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight, so check your booking confirmation and ticket.
IndiGo carries infants above 3 days and under 2 years old on the date of travel, on an adult's lap, one infant per adult, and asks for proof of age at check-in: a birth certificate, the mother's hospital discharge summary, a vaccination certificate or a passport. A child aged 5 to 12 travels either with a companion aged 18 or over or on IndiGo's Flying Solo service, and a child under 5 must travel with someone over 18. IndiGo sets pregnancy limits by week, so check with IndiGo before you book.
SpiceJet says its check-in counters close 60 minutes before departure and its boarding gates 25 minutes before, and it advises reporting at least two hours before departure. Its domestic web check-in stays open until 60 minutes before departure, but unaccompanied minors cannot use it.
SpiceJet allows one piece of hand baggage of up to 7 kg. The size limit depends on the aircraft: 55 x 35 x 25 cm on its Boeing flights and 50 x 35 x 23 cm on its Q400 flights. For checked baggage, SpiceJet allows one piece of up to 15 kg on domestic flights, within 158 cm in total dimensions, and your ticket sets the allowance that applies to your fare.
SpiceJet carries infants above 7 days and below 2 years old on the travel date, on an adult's lap, one infant per adult. Its Terms of Carriage accept a birth certificate, the mother's hospital discharge summary, a vaccination certificate or a passport as proof of age; without one, the applicable fare is charged, subject to seats being available. A passenger travelling with an infant may carry an extra piece of hand baggage of up to 7 kg.
SpiceJet accepts children aged 5 to 12 travelling alone as unaccompanied minors. Its Terms of Carriage ask for the form to be signed before departure, photo identification for both the parent or guardian and the child, and both to be at the airport at least two hours before departure. SpiceJet sets its own rules for expectant mothers, so check with SpiceJet before you book.
The Terms of Carriage say power banks, portable mobile chargers and spare batteries go in hand baggage only, not in checked baggage, and may not be used, charged or placed in overhead bins during the flight. SpiceJet's conditions also say alcoholic drinks may not be carried from or into Bihar or other dry states.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of photo identity documents accepted at entry to an airport terminal includes a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence, carried in original with a valid ticket. On the CISF list, an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, so check with your airline as well.
Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.
The DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023, sets what airlines provide for delays and cancellations. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments during a long delay, at thresholds that depend on the flight's length, but it does not have to where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking, or where the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances.
The CAR also says an airline is not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to weather, air traffic control or security risks, so a flight held up or cancelled by fog is unlikely to bring compensation.
IndiGo's Plan B lets you rebook on a different flight at no additional cost, or take a full refund, if IndiGo cancels your flight, brings it forward by 1 hour or more, or postpones it by 2 hours or more. Check with IndiGo whether Plan B applies to a weather cancellation.
