Hindon Airport (HDO) is in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, about 8 km from Ghaziabad city. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) describes it as a civil enclave in Ghaziabad district, operated by AAI at Hindan Air Force Station (Hindan is the official aeronautical spelling). AAI says the civil enclave was built near Sikandarpur village in Sahibabad, next to the Indian Air Force airbase, to handle domestic flights under the government's Regional Connectivity Scheme.

Hindon, Indira Gandhi International Airport (DEL) and Noida International Airport (DXN) are separate airports near Delhi, so check which one your ticket names. AAI says that because Hindon is very close to Delhi, it suits scheduled and non-scheduled operators who could not get slots at Indira Gandhi International Airport.

Direct domestic flights recorded from Hindon are with IndiGo, to Bengaluru, Kolkata, Navi Mumbai and Varanasi, and with Star Air, to Jalandhar (Adampur) and Nanded. The table further down this page links each route.

Getting to and from Hindon Airport

App-based taxis are available. According to AAI, there is no parking at Hindon Airport, by day or night, and only pick-up and drop-off taxis are available. AAI asks passengers to arrange their own cab or vehicle to save time.

The nearest metro station, according to AAI, is Major Mohit Sharma Rajender Nagar, about 5 km from the terminal. Plan how you will cover the distance between the station and the terminal before you travel.

Facilities at Hindon Airport

AAI describes the terminal building as air-conditioned and says a child care room with a baby-changing station, a diwan and a separate toilet is in the security hold area. According to AAI, lost items are deposited with the Terminal Manager.

Identity, liquids and power banks

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of photo identity documents for entry to an airport terminal includes a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence, carried in original with a valid ticket. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document on the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does. Check your airline's own requirements as well.

Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels may go in cabin baggage in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that power banks may not be used or charged during the flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.

Flying IndiGo from Hindon

Check-in on IndiGo

IndiGo closes check-in counters for domestic flights 60 minutes before scheduled departure and boarding gates 25 minutes before departure, and recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure. It reserves the right to cancel the booking of a passenger who does not keep to these timelines.

Baggage on IndiGo

IndiGo allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. It gives 15 kg of checked baggage per person on domestic flights. A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close.

IndiGo allows power banks and spare lithium batteries only in hand baggage, not in overhead compartments or checked baggage. IndiGo says baggage rules differ from flight to flight, so check your booking confirmation and ticket.

Children and pregnancy on IndiGo

IndiGo carries infants aged above 3 days and under 2 years on the date of travel on an adult's lap, one infant per adult, with proof of age at check-in such as a birth certificate, a vaccination certificate or a passport. On domestic flights, a child under 5 must travel with someone over 18, a child aged 5 to 12 needs a companion aged 18 or over or IndiGo's Flying Solo service, and a minor aged 13 to 18 can travel alone or use Flying Solo.

IndiGo accepts a normal pregnancy with no prior complications up to the end of 36 weeks, and asks for a Fit to Fly certificate from the treating obstetrician, dated not more than 7 days before travel, between the 32nd and 36th week. Its limits are lower for a multiple or complicated pregnancy, so check with IndiGo before you book.

Flying Star Air from Hindon

Star Air flies Embraer regional jets and asks passengers to check the aircraft type for their route when booking.

Check-in on Star Air

Star Air advises reporting to its check-in counter at least 2 hours before departure. The counter closes 60 minutes before departure and boarding gates close 25 minutes before, and Star Air's conditions of carriage ask passengers who have checked in online to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before departure.

Web check-in is on starair.in: check your booking for when it opens and closes. Passengers who need special assistance, such as a wheelchair, should pre-book it at least 48 hours before departure and check in at the airport counter, as Star Air does not let them use online check-in.

Baggage on Star Air

Star Air allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, and a laptop counts towards that weight. Its conditions also list items carried in addition to the cabin bag, such as a handbag, a camera, an overcoat and medicines needed during the flight.

The checked allowance depends on the fare: Star Air's conditions give 15 kg on Star Regular and Star Flexi, and 20 kg on Star Comfort and the Business fares. Star Air allows power banks only in hand baggage. It says the free checked allowance follows the fare rules on the ticket, so check yours before you pack.

Children and pregnancy on Star Air

Star Air carries infants from 7 days old until their second birthday on the day of travel, one infant per adult, with proof of age at the airport. Its unaccompanied minor service is for children from 5 and under 12, and children under 5 cannot travel alone. Star Air's pages set limits on flying during pregnancy by week and ask for a doctor's certificate from 28 weeks, so check with Star Air before you book.

Delays and passenger rights

IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability. Star Air's conditions say that if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than two and a half hours (depending on the length of the journey), a passenger can choose a refund or a rebooking on another Star Air flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.

Both airlines refer to the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV. Under Revision 4 of the CAR, dated 25 January 2023, the airline provides meals and refreshments during a long delay if you checked in on time, at thresholds that depend on the flight's length. It does not have to where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

Compensation for a cancellation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking. The CAR also says airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks.

In winter, check your flight with the airline before you set out for the airport, and leave time between a flight and anything you cannot miss.

City Forest Park, Ghaziabad

The Ghaziabad district administration describes City Forest Park, on the banks of the Hindon river, as having walking trails, cycle tracks and a horse-riding facility.
