It is about 12 to 13 km east of Kalaburagi city. Direct domestic flights recorded from the airport are with Star Air, to Bengaluru (Bangalore).

Flying Star Air from Kalaburagi

Star Air flies Embraer regional jets and asks passengers to check the aircraft type for their route when booking. Star Air publishes its check-in, baggage and passenger rules on its website, and its conditions of carriage hold the full terms.

Check-in

Star Air advises reporting to its check-in counter at least 2 hours before departure. The counter closes 60 minutes before departure, and boarding gates close 25 minutes before. Star Air's conditions also ask passengers who have checked in online to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before departure.

Web check-in is on starair.in: check your booking and starair.in for when it opens and closes.

Baggage

You can take one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, and a laptop counts towards that weight. Star Air's conditions also list items carried in addition to the cabin bag, such as a handbag, a camera, an overcoat and medicines needed during the flight.

The checked allowance depends on the fare: Star Air's conditions give 15 kg on Star Regular and Star Flexi, and 20 kg on Star Comfort and the Business fares. Star Air allows power banks only in hand baggage, and a Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular of 11 November 2025 adds that power banks and spare batteries must not go in overhead bins and are not to be used or charged during flight. Star Air says the free checked allowance follows the fare rules on the ticket, so check yours before you pack.

Children, pregnancy and special assistance

Star Air carries infants from 7 days old until their second birthday on the day of travel, one infant per adult, with proof of age at the airport. Its unaccompanied minor service is for children from age 5 and under 12, and children under 5 cannot travel alone.

Star Air's pages set limits on flying during pregnancy by week and ask for a doctor's certificate from 28 weeks, so check with Star Air before you book.

Passengers who need special assistance, such as a wheelchair, should pre-book it at least 48 hours before departure. They check in at the airport counter, as Star Air does not let them use online check-in.

Identity documents and liquids in cabin baggage

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of photo identity documents accepted at entry to an airport terminal includes a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence, carried in original with a valid ticket. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document on the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does. Check the airline's own requirements as well.

In cabin baggage, the CISF restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

Star Air's conditions of carriage say that if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than two and a half hours (depending on the length of the journey), a passenger can choose a refund or a rebooking on another Star Air flight at no additional cost, subject to availability, as per the DGCA's rules.

Those rules are the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments during a long delay, at thresholds that depend on the flight's length. It does not have to provide them where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

A passenger not told of a cancellation in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules together with a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking, or where the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances. You can complain to the airline, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court.

Places to visit in Kalaburagi

Kalaburagi was the Bahmani capital until 1424, when the capital moved to Bidar, according to AAI. Karnataka Tourism recommends visiting in winter, from November to February, as summers can be very hot, and says modest dress is appreciated at religious places.

The Sharana Basaveshwar Temple is the shrine of the Lingayat saint Sharana Basaveshwara, whose samadhi is in the sanctum (garbha gudi). A lake lies beside the temple, and a chariot festival (jatra) held every year in his honour draws large crowds.

The Khwaja Banda Nawaz Dargah (Bande Nawaz in Karnataka Tourism's spelling) is the tomb of the Chishti Sufi saint Syed Muhammad Hussaini, known as Gesu Daraz. He settled in the city at the invitation of the Bahmani king Firuz Shah. The district administration says the temple and the dargah can be reached by auto-rickshaw or city bus.

Gulbarga Fort was strengthened by the Bahmani ruler Alauddin Hasan Bahman Shah, and the Jama Masjid inside it commemorates the city's time as the Bahmani capital. Buddha Vihar, a Buddhist temple and meditation centre on Sedam Road near Gulbarga University, is about 8 km from the airport.

Karnataka Tourism also lists the Haft Gumbaz mausoleum complex, Shor Gumbad and Sri Narasimha Swamy Temple among places to visit.

Beyond the city

Places outside the city include Sannati, where Ashokan edicts were found, and the Buddhist Maha Stupa site at Kanaganahalli; Malkhed, once the Rashtrakuta capital; and Deval Ganagapur, a Dattatreya shrine.
