Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport (NAG) serves Nagpur, in Maharashtra. GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited, a GMR Airports company, took over its operation and redevelopment on 25 June 2026 from MIHAN India Limited.

MIHAN India Limited, a joint venture of Maharashtra Airport Development Company and the Airports Authority of India (AAI), dates the airfield to 1917-18. The airport took its present name in 2005, and its first scheduled international flight was in October 2005.

Who runs Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport

GMR Nagpur International Airport Limited, a GMR Airports company, has run the airport since 25 June 2026 under a concession from MIHAN India Limited, signed on 8 October 2024, with MIHAN India Limited as the Authority and the GMR company as the Concessionaire. The concession is a public-private partnership on a Design, Build, Finance, Operate and Transfer basis.

GMR Airports describes the airport as being redeveloped.

Facilities in the terminal

Free Wi-Fi is available for up to 4 hours, and charging points are spread across the terminal building. Free baggage trolleys are in the baggage reclaim area.

A first-aid room, run in partnership with Kingsway Hospitals, is in the arrival reclaim hall and is open 24 hours with trained medical staff. Baby care rooms are in the check-in area, at the boarding gates and in the arrival and baggage reclaim areas. The smoking zone is on the Departures level (Level 1).

Ebix currency-exchange counters for international arrivals are in the arrivals hall, and a cash machine in the terminal forecourt is open 24 hours. The Airr Lounge in the Domestic Security Hold Area and the Mandarin Lounge near check-in are available for eligible passengers. If you hold lounge access through a card or a ticket, check with its provider that it covers Nagpur.

Help for passengers with reduced mobility

Book wheelchair assistance in advance through your airline. "May I Help You" airline staff and accessible washrooms are available throughout the terminal, 24 hours a day.

Check-in and security at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport

The airport's traveller guide advises arriving at least 2 hours before a domestic flight and 3 hours before an international departure. Your airline sets its own reporting time, so follow the airline where the two differ. Check-in counters close 1 hour before scheduled departure. Keep your identity document and boarding pass ready at the terminal entrance.

Identity documents

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them.

The CISF list says an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof does not need a separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.

Liquids, power banks and banned items

Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions. The same list bars lighters, metal scissors with pointed tips, knives other than round-bladed, butter and plastic ones, and tools such as hammers, drills and pliers from cabin baggage.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Power banks must not go in checked baggage. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.

Digi Yatra

Domestic passengers can use the Digi Yatra e-gate at the terminal entrance for faster entry. Check the Digi Yatra app for who can enrol before you rely on it.

Getting to and from Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport

Taxis and app cabs

Taxis run around the clock, with pick-up and drop-off zones outside the terminal, and a pre-paid taxi counter is in the arrivals hall. Pick-up zones for Ola, Uber and Rapido are 80 metres from the terminal exit, so allow for a short walk with your bags.

Metro

Nagpur Metro, run by Maha Metro, has Orange Line stations named Airport, Airport South and New Airport. The airport's guide puts a metro station under 1 km from the terminal, with an air-conditioned shuttle between the two.

The Orange Line also stops at Sitabuldi (Interchange), where it meets the Aqua Line.

Buses

Public and private bus services connect the airport with locations across the city.

Drop-off and parking

The lanes in front of the terminal are for vehicles carrying departing passengers only, and a vehicle may stop there free of charge for up to 10 minutes. Private vehicles also have dedicated parking for short and long stays, and their own pick-up and drop-off zones.

Arriving at Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport

Flight-information screens in baggage reclaim show which belt your bags arrive on, and airline staff in the reclaim hall handle odd-sized items. Lost and found is on the Arrivals level (Level 0) and is open 24 hours. Passengers arriving from abroad pass through customs, which has a Green Channel and a Red Channel.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

The DGCA sets out what airlines offer when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to 5 hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not require meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

If a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours from its published departure time, or from a revised time communicated more than 24 hours before the original departure, the airline offers either an alternate flight within six hours or a full refund. For a delay of more than 24 hours, or more than six hours for a flight scheduled to depart between 2000 and 0300 hours, the airline provides hotel accommodation when necessary, including transfers.

When a flight is cancelled, the airline provides for an alternate flight or a refund, and a passenger who was not told in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking. The CAR does not require compensation for a cancellation caused by extraordinary circumstances, and it says an airline need not pay compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks.

You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision and your airline's current rules before you rely on this.
