Ajmer is about 30 km away, and Rajasthan Tourism names the airport as the nearest to it. Direct domestic flights recorded from the airport are with Star Air, to Pune.

History of Kishangarh Airport

Kishangarh had a small airstrip before AAI built the airport, used now and then by the state government, visitors and businessmen for charter planes and helicopters. The Government of Rajasthan and AAI signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in 2009, with the approval of the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the state government handed the land over to AAI in phases. AAI dates the airport's operation from October 2017.

Getting to and from Kishangarh Airport

The taxi service at the airport is run by private taxi drivers, from near the arrival exit. Rajasthan Tourism says you can pre-book a cab, or hire one from the taxi stands outside the airport.

The airport is about 5 km north of Kishangarh and about 30 km from Ajmer. Rajasthan Tourism puts Pushkar about 14 to 15 km from Ajmer.

For onward travel by train, Ajmer is on the Delhi-Jaipur-Marwar-Ahmedabad-Mumbai railway line, and Rajasthan Tourism says most trains on this route halt there. Pushkar Terminus railway station is connected to Ajmer railway station.

Facilities at and near Kishangarh Airport

The airport has a single domestic terminal. Facilities include a 24-hour ATM, drinking water in the terminal building and a snack bar after security, and there is first aid at arrival.

For disabled, elderly and infirm passengers there are ramps at the departure entry and the arrival exit, a toilet in departures and tactile tiles. Wheelchairs and trolleys are available near the departure entry gate and the arrival conveyor belt. There is a child care room in the security hold area, and mobile charging points are in departures and in the security hold area.

Hotels and restaurants are in the city. Banks and a post office are near the airport and in the city.

Star Air asks passengers who need special assistance, including a wheelchair, to pre-book it at least 48 hours before the scheduled departure. Star Air says those passengers must check in at the airport counter and cannot use online check-in.

Flying Star Air from Kishangarh Airport

Star Air flies Embraer regional jets, and asks passengers to check the aircraft type on their route when booking.

Star Air check-in times

Star Air's conditions of carriage say check-in closes 60 minutes before the scheduled departure and boarding gates close 25 minutes before it. Star Air's conditions also ask passengers who have checked in online to be at the boarding gate 30 minutes before departure. Star Air advises reporting at its check-in counter at least 2 hours before the flight.

Web check-in is on starair.in, so check the window for your booking there.

Star Air baggage

Star Air allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg, laptop included. Its conditions also list items carried in addition to that bag, such as a handbag, a camera, an overcoat and medicines needed during the flight.

The checked allowance depends on the fare: 15 kg on Star Regular and Star Flexi, and 20 kg on Star Comfort and the Business fares. Infants get no free baggage allowance. Star Air says the allowance is the one in the fare rules on your ticket, so check yours before you pack.

Children and pregnancy on Star Air

Star Air carries infants under 2 years old on the day of travel, but not younger than 7 days, one infant per adult, with proof of age at the airport. Its unaccompanied minor service is for children from 5 to under 12, and children under 5 cannot travel alone.

For expectant mothers, Star Air sets limits by week of pregnancy and asks for a doctor's certificate from 28 weeks, so check with the airline before booking.

Visiting Ajmer, Pushkar and Kishangarh

Ajmer Sharif Dargah

The Ajmer Sharif Dargah is a Sufi shrine in Ajmer that encloses the grave of Garib Nawaz, the Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Hasan Chishty, according to Rajasthan Tourism.

According to the Ministry of Minority Affairs, the Dargah's management is governed by an Act of Parliament, the Dargah Khwaja Saheb Act, 1955, and it is administered through a Dargah Committee, a statutory body constituted by the Ministry. The Urs, the saint's death anniversary, is held every year from the 1st to the 6th day of the Islamic month of Rajab.

Pushkar and the Pushkar Fair

Rajasthan Tourism describes Pushkar Lake as surrounded by bathing ghats and temples, and calls Pushkar's Brahma temple the only temple dedicated to Lord Brahma in the whole world.

Rajasthan Tourism describes the Pushkar Fair as an annual five-day camel and livestock fair, held in Pushkar between October and November.

Ajmer and Kishangarh

In Ajmer, the sights Rajasthan Tourism names include Adhai Din Ka Jhonpda, Taragarh Fort, Ana Sagar and Mayo College. Kishangarh has its fort, with the Durbar Hall and the Phool Mahal palace, and Gundolav Lake.

AAI says the area is visited by tourists, marble traders, artists and academicians, and names Kishangarh's marble centre and the Kishangarh art style among its draws.

Best time to visit Ajmer

Rajasthan Tourism gives October to February as the best time to visit Ajmer, and advises avoiding the summer months of March to May.

Identity documents and cabin baggage rules

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof does not need a separate document on the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does.

Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.

In cabin baggage, the CISF restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.

Star Air allows power banks only in hand baggage. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular of 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only, not in overhead bins, and are not to be used or charged during flight. Ask Star Air about any limit on their size or number.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

Star Air's conditions of carriage say that if a flight is cancelled or rescheduled by more than two and a half hours, depending on the length of the journey, a passenger can choose a refund or rebooking on another Star Air flight at no extra cost, subject to availability, as the DGCA's rules provide.

The DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023, sets out what airlines provide when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision, and Star Air's current rules, before you rely on them.

If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments during a long delay, at thresholds that depend on the flight's length. For a total delay of more than 24 hours, or more than 6 hours on a flight scheduled between 2000 and 0300 hours, the CAR also provides for hotel accommodation when necessary, including transfers. The airline does not have to provide meals or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

A passenger not told of a cancellation in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules together with a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking, or where the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances.

The CAR also says airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, meteorological conditions or security risks. You can complain to the airline, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court.
