Yercaud, Mettur Dam and other places in Salem district

The Salem district administration describes Yercaud as a hill station near Salem, in the Servarayan range of hills, anglicised as the Shevaroys, in the Eastern Ghats. Its Yercaud page names the lake, Anna Park, Bear's Cave, Lady's, Gent's and Children's Seat, and Pagoda Point, also called Pyramid Point, which it puts 5 km from the town. It also names Killiyur Falls, a horticultural farm, a Botanical Survey of India garden, a silk farm, a rose garden, the Shevarayan Temple, which is a cave temple, and the Sri Raja Rajeswari Temple.

The district administration puts Mettur Dam 60 km from Salem. It says work on the dam, on the Cauvery river, ran from 1925 to 1934 to a design by Colonel W. M. Ellis, and that a park lies opposite the dam.

Its list of places of interest also names Sangagiri Fort, a historical fort maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India, and Kurumbapatti Zoological Park, which it puts 12 km from the Salem bus stand. Muttal, in the same list, is a waterfalls village about 15 km from Attur.

Flying IndiGo from Salem

IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a customer does not keep to its check-in timelines.

IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Its allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.

A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check yours.

IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability. IndiGo's conditions of carriage say that on unconnected flight segments it is not responsible if a customer misses the flight to the final destination because of a delay to the IndiGo flight, and that it provides no compensation or facility in that case.

Identity documents, liquids and power banks

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of photo identity documents accepted at entry to an airport terminal includes a passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence, carried in original with a valid ticket. An infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document on the CISF list, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, so check with IndiGo.

In cabin baggage, the CISF restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only and not in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Check IndiGo's own baggage pages for its limits on power banks before you fly.

Delays, cancellations and passenger rights

Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to meteorological conditions. IndiGo says that if you give an SMS-capable mobile number at booking, it will tell you of a change to your flight in advance by SMS, and it sends the revised itinerary by email.

The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.

You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal. The CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
