Kadapa Airport: buses, taxis and facilities

India's aeronautical information publication says buses and taxis are available 1 km from the terminal building. It puts hotels and restaurants in the city, with first aid at the airport and a hospital in the city.

According to the Airports Authority of India, the airport has an ATM, a child care room for feeding and changing an infant, free trolleys and drinking water, first aid, a mobile charging point and ramps for wheelchair users. AAI says a passenger can request a wheelchair from the airline when booking, or at the airline's ticketing counter after reaching the airport.

Kadapa Airport's history and the new terminal foundation stone

According to AAI, the airport was built in 1953, and the state government and AAI signed a memorandum of understanding in March 2007 to develop it. The upgraded airport was inaugurated on 7 June 2015.

In his address of 10 March 2024, published by the Prime Minister's Office, the Prime Minister said foundation stones had been laid that day for new terminal buildings at the airports in Kadapa, Belagavi and Hubli.

Gandikota and the Penna River gorge

The YSR Kadapa district administration says the fort at Gandikota stands on a hill overlooking the Penna River gorge, and that the name comes from the Telugu words "gandi" (gorge) and "kota" (fort). According to the district, a record called the Gandikota Kaifiyat dates the fortress back to 1123.

Inside the fort, the district names the House of the Drums, the Mini Charminar, the Jama Masjid, the Madhavaraya Temple and the Raghunatha Swamy Temple. At the Penna River Viewpoint, it says, the gorge runs between the cliffs of the Erramala hills and is around 200 metres wide.

The district gives the road distance to Gandikota as 85 km from Kadapa town and 16 km from Jammalamadugu.

Vontimitta and Pushpagiri

The district administration says Vontimitta is known for the Kodanda Ramaswamy Temple, which was built by the Chola and Vijayanagara kings. It places Pushpagiri, with its Chennakesava Temple, on the banks of the Pennar, which it also calls the Pinakini.

IndiGo check-in, baggage and changes

IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a customer does not keep to its check-in timelines.

IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Its allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.

A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check yours.

IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.

Identity documents, liquids and power banks

Under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of valid photo identity documents, a passenger carries any one of them in original, with a valid ticket, at entry to the terminal building. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them, and an unaccompanied minor needs one too. Airlines may ask for more, so check with your airline.

Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only and not in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Check IndiGo's own baggage pages for its limits on power banks before you fly.

Delays, cancellations and passenger rights

Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, meteorological conditions or security risks. IndiGo says that if you give an SMS-capable mobile number at booking, it will tell you of a change to your flight in advance by SMS, and it sends the revised itinerary by email.

The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.

You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal. The CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
