Sri Guru Ram Das Jee International Airport, Amritsar (ATQ) is about 11 km from the centre of Amritsar in Punjab, on the Amritsar-Ajnala Road near the village of Raja Sansi. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) runs it, and the airport is named after Guru Ram Das Ji, described by AAI as the fourth Sikh Guru and the founder of Amritsar city. AAI says the airport serves Punjab and also Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

The direct domestic flights recorded from Amritsar are with IndiGo, Air India and Air India Express, to the destinations in the table further down this page.

Getting to and from Amritsar's airport

Taxis and cabs

AAI lists a prepaid taxi service and WTI Cab Services in the arrival area and outside the terminal building. It also lists Ola and Uber, at a location outside the terminal building.

The free Golden Temple bus AAI lists

AAI's transport list for Amritsar includes a free bus service between the airport and the Golden Temple, run by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC). Ask at the help desk on the arrival side where the bus stops and when it runs before you count on it.

The terminal at Amritsar's airport

AAI describes one integrated terminal building with a glass structure, commissioned on 25 February 2009 under its modernisation programme. Domestic and international passengers use the same building, with separate domestic and international security hold areas, and immigration and customs counters for international departures and arrivals.

AAI lists common-user check-in counters, self-service kiosks for boarding cards, a flight information display system and four aero bridges. Baggage trolleys are placed on the departure side and in the arrival hall.

Facilities at Amritsar's airport

Wi-Fi, money and other services

AAI lists Wi-Fi in the terminal building, free for the first 30 minutes with charges after that. Check the terms at the airport. It also lists mobile charging points, drinking water, an escalator, a child care room, sanitary-napkin vending machines in the ladies' washrooms, and medical and first aid run by Corporate Hospital.

AAI lists Ebixcash for foreign exchange at arrival, in the international security hold area and in the check-in area. The automated teller machines (ATMs) it lists are State Bank of India outside the terminal on the arrival side, Punjab & Sind Bank and Union Bank of India in the check-in area on the departure side, and Punjab National Bank outside the terminal on the departure side.

AAI lists a baggage wrapping service and a baggage weight check in the check-in area, the weight check free of cost. It also lists a visitor entry ticket for the visitor area, and paid meet-and-greet services.

Accessibility

AAI lists ramps and sensor doors at the main entry and exit, toilets designed for passengers with disabilities and senior citizens, and lifts to the first floor with braille and an audio system. Wheelchairs are available from the airlines on demand, so request one through your airline. Parking in front of the arrival and departure gates, and help-desk counters on the arrival and departure sides, are listed too.

Lost property

AAI's lost and found office at the airport is open from 09:30 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, and closed on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Claims go to the office by email or phone, with a copy of the boarding pass and a photo identity document; items not collected within 90 days are disposed of, and perishables are kept for 48 hours. For checked or mishandled baggage, or anything left in the customs arrival area, contact your airline.

Identity and security for a domestic flight from Amritsar

Identity documents

The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at entry to the terminal building, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them, and an international passenger carries a passport.

The CISF list says an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.

Liquids, banned items and power banks

The CISF's restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols, gels and pastes in cabin baggage in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions. Lighters, knives (apart from round-bladed, butter and plastic cutlery), tools such as hammers and drills, sporting goods such as bats and golf clubs, and pepper spray are among the items the list bars from cabin baggage.

A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.

Winter fog and flights at Amritsar

AAI states that the airport is equipped for CAT III-B operation, which it says allows aircraft to operate in low visibility down to 50 metres. In December 2025 the Ministry of Civil Aviation told airlines to deploy aircraft and crew qualified for fog operations.

On 21 December 2025, Akashvani, the government broadcaster, reported an AAI advisory that fog in parts of northern India might lead to delays or changes in flights at select airports, and reported IndiGo saying that low visibility and fog over Bengaluru and Amritsar had affected its schedules. In winter, check your flight with the airline before you leave for the airport, and allow extra time.

Places to visit in and around Amritsar

AAI's page for the airport lists places to visit that include the Golden Temple (Sri Harmandir Sahib), Jallianwala Bagh, Durgiana Temple, Ram Tirath Temple, Lal Devi Mata Temple, the Maharaja Ranjit Singh Panorama, Saada Pind, a heritage walk and the Wagah border.

Delays, cancellations and your rights

The DGCA sets out what airlines provide when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to 5 hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not require meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.

If a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours from its published departure time, or from a revised time communicated more than 24 hours before the original departure, the airline offers either an alternate flight within six hours or a full refund. For a delay of more than 24 hours, or more than six hours for a flight scheduled to depart between 8 pm and 3 am, the airline provides hotel accommodation when necessary, including transfers.

When a flight is cancelled, the airline arranges an alternate flight or a refund, and a passenger who was not told in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking, or where the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances. The CAR also says an airline need not pay compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks, so a winter fog disruption can fall within it.

You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision and your airline's current rules before you rely on this.
