The airport's website describes Kazi Nazrul Islam Airport as a project under Bengal Aerotropolis Projects Limited (BAPL). It says the state government, through the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC), has a stake in BAPL, and that Changi Airports International of Singapore also has one.
India's aeronautical information publication and a Ministry of Civil Aviation release of 18 July 2019 use the name Durgapur Airport. The publication names the Airport Director in its operator entry, and the 2019 release called the airport the latest entrant on the map of the Regional Connectivity Scheme. The airport's website says it was officially inaugurated on 19 September 2013.
India's aeronautical information publication lists buses and taxis from the airport. According to the airport's website, its prepaid taxi service can be reached at the Comfort Rides Taxi and Singh Travels taxi counters, and a paid shuttle is available from the airport's main gate to the passenger terminal building. The website also says auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws may not enter the airport premises.
At the airport, India's aeronautical information publication lists an ATM, restaurants and first aid, with more restaurants, a hospital and hotels in the city. It puts the post office 5 km from the airport.
According to the airport's website, its facilities include ATMs, free Wi-Fi, a ticket booking counter, food and beverage outlets and parking. It says an airport medical unit provides emergency medical facilities during flight operations, and that wheelchairs are provided by the airlines or ground handling agencies from their counters.
A Government of India press release of 18 July 2025 records the Prime Minister, in an address at Durgapur, saying that Durgapur, known as a Steel City, is also a major hub of India's labour force. WBIDC names the Durgapur Steel Plant and the Alloy Steels Plant among the city's industrial units.
According to the Paschim Bardhaman district administration, Churulia is the birthplace of the Bengali poet Kazi Nazrul Islam and the resting place of his wife, Pramila Devi. The district says many of the poet's manuscripts, medallions and other belongings are kept at the Nazrul Academy in the village, established in 1958. It adds that a college bearing the poet's name stands nearby.
IndiGo's check-in counters for domestic flights close 60 minutes before scheduled departure, and its boarding gates close 25 minutes before departure. IndiGo recommends reporting at least 2 hours before departure, and says it reserves the right to cancel a reservation if a customer does not keep to its check-in timelines.
IndiGo's baggage policy allows one cabin bag of up to 7 kg and 55 x 35 x 25 cm, plus one personal article of up to 3 kg, such as a purse or a small bag containing a laptop. Its allowance page gives a domestic checked allowance of 15 kg per person.
A Lite fare, or a similar promotional fare, includes no checked baggage; it can be added for a charge, including at the airport check-in counter before the counters close. IndiGo says baggage requirements differ from flight to flight and that the booking confirmation and ticket carry the most accurate details, so check yours.
IndiGo says that if it delays a flight by more than 2 hours or brings it forward by more than 1 hour, customers are entitled to a full refund or rebooking onto an alternative IndiGo flight at no additional cost, subject to availability.
Under the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) list of valid photo identity documents, a passenger carries any one of them in original, with a valid ticket, at entry to the terminal building. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them, and an unaccompanied minor needs one too. Airlines may ask for more, so check with your airline.
Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag; medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are the exceptions. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only and not in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Check IndiGo's own baggage pages for its limits on power banks before you fly.
Under the DGCA's Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023, airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to meteorological conditions. IndiGo says that if you give an SMS-capable mobile number at booking, it will tell you of a change to your flight in advance by SMS, and it sends the revised itinerary by email.
The same CAR says the duty to provide meals, refreshments and hotel accommodation during a delay does not apply where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken. Cancellation compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, so give your contact details when you book.
You can complain to the airline directly or file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal. The CAR is the document to read for the full terms.
