Thiruvananthapuram International Airport (TRV) serves Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum), in Keralam (Kerala), and Thiruvananthapuram International Airport Limited (TIAL) operates it. TIAL places the airport approximately 3.7 km due west of the city centre and says it serves the southern districts of Keralam and Tamil Nadu.
TIAL dates the airport to 1932 and describes it as the first airport in Keralam. TIAL describes two terminals in two places: Terminal 1, near Sankhumukham beach, as the domestic terminal, and Terminal 2, in Chackai, as the international terminal.
TIAL's description of the airport gives Terminal 1, near Sankhumukham beach, as the domestic terminal and Terminal 2, in Chackai, as the international terminal. The airport's postal address is Airport Road, Chackai, Thiruvananthapuram 695024.
TIAL's airline table does not follow that split exactly. It lists Air India at Terminal 1 for domestic flights, Air India Express at Terminal 2 for domestic and international flights, and IndiGo at both terminals for domestic and international flights. Because the two terminals are in different places, check the terminal on your booking or boarding pass, with your airline, or on the airport's flight-status page, which shows a terminal for each flight, before you set off.
Coach transfers between the terminals are among the airport's transport services.
Prepaid taxi services operate at both the domestic and the international terminal, and private taxi services have counters in the arrival area. Metered taxis and app-based cabs have pick-up points at both terminals, and car hire is available. Metered auto rickshaws are available outside Terminal 1 and Terminal 2.
According to TIAL, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) runs Air-Rail electric buses that connect the airport with Trivandrum Central railway station and the city centre. Bus stops are outside the domestic terminal at Terminal 1 and in the arrival pickup area at Terminal 2, and city bus signs show the starting point and destination. Check the route and times with KSRTC before you travel.
TIAL names Trivandrum North and Trivandrum Central as the nearest railway stations.
Both terminals have parking, with short-term and long-term options, and a space can be booked in advance by QR code. A valet parking service is also available.
Plan to arrive two hours before a domestic flight and four hours before an international one. Passengers who have not checked in online can use Digi Yatra or a self-check-in kiosk, then drop their bags at the check-in counters. Identity is checked at the terminal entry gate, so have your photo identity and your ticket or boarding pass ready there.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them. Under the CISF list, an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof does not need a separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does.
Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.
At the security check, your cabin luggage is screened and electronics and personal items go in separate trays. Under the CISF's restricted-articles list, liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage go in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.
A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number. The hand-baggage allowance also differs by airline, so check yours before you pack.
On the day of travel, Digi Yatra users go to the Digi Yatra gate at the Terminal 1 entry gates for a face scan, pass an e-gate at a face pod in the pre-security hold area, and are checked again at a face pod after security before self-boarding at the departure gate. Registration uses Aadhaar or Digi Locker, according to TIAL. Check the Digi Yatra app for who can enrol before you rely on it.
Domestic passengers do not go through immigration. Display screens show the baggage belt, and the kerbside is for meeting people or for pre-arranged transport. Prepaid taxis, app-based cabs and KSRTC services are available outside the terminal.
The Lounge T1 is in the domestic departures post-security hold area of Terminal 1, opposite the passenger lift, and is open 24 hours. It takes business-class passengers, card holders and walk-in customers, and has a self-service buffet, free Wi-Fi, newspapers and television, with alcohol at a charge. TIAL's lounge page advises accessing the lounge three hours before scheduled departure.
TIAL lists an information desk, lost and found, Wi-Fi, special assistance, a baby care room, buggies, baggage trolleys, a prayer room and a smoking room, along with charging stations, help phones, slumber chairs and cash machines. Pranaam, a paid meet-and-assist service, helps arriving and departing passengers through airport procedures and is available for prior booking.
Wheelchair assistance, priority boarding, support through the airport, ramps and accessible restrooms are available for passengers with reduced mobility, and passengers are advised to tell their airline in advance. Food and retail outlets are spread across the terminals, among them fast food, fine dining, Indian and international cuisine, duty-free and handicrafts.
Swarajya reported on 23 July 2026 that TIAL had invited bids to expand Terminal 2, and that the tender schedule expected the work to run from November 2027 to July 2030.

The DGCA sets out what airlines provide when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to five hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not oblige the airline to provide meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.
If a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours from its published departure time, or from a revised time communicated more than 24 hours before the original departure, the airline gives a choice of an alternate flight within six hours or a full refund. For a delay of more than 24 hours, or of more than six hours on a flight scheduled to depart between 2000 and 0300 hours, the airline provides hotel accommodation when necessary, including transfers.
Airlines are to tell passengers of a cancellation at least two weeks before departure, and the airline arranges an alternate flight or a refund; a passenger not told in time is given either an alternate flight or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave no email address or phone number at booking, or where the cancellation is caused by extraordinary circumstances. The CAR also says airlines are not liable for compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks.
You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for any later revision, and your airline's own rules, before you rely on this.
TIAL describes Terminal 1, near Sankhumukham beach, as the domestic terminal. Its airline table also lists Air India Express at Terminal 2 and IndiGo at both terminals, so check your booking or boarding pass, ask your airline, or use the airport's flight-status page, which shows a terminal for each flight.
TIAL puts the airport approximately 3.7 km due west of the city centre. It gives the airport as 3 km from Sri Padmanabha Swamy Temple, 13 km from Technopark, 14 km from Kovalam beach and 89 km from Kanyakumari.
According to TIAL, KSRTC's Air-Rail electric buses connect the airport with Trivandrum Central railway station and the city centre. Check the route and times with KSRTC before you travel.
