Rajkot International Airport (HSR) is at Hirasar, in Rajkot district, Gujarat, and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) built and runs it. A Government of India press release of 10 June 2022 put the airport about 30 km from Rajkot city, on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the development of the new airport at Hirasar on 28 February 2019, and the Prime Minister inaugurated it on 27 July 2023. The government release on the approval said Rajkot's then-existing airport, in the middle of the city, was short of land, with a railway line and a state highway on its east side preventing a longer runway. It said that airport would cease functioning once the new one at Hirasar became operational.
AAI describes Rajkot as the fourth-largest city in Gujarat, after Ahmedabad, Vadodara and Surat, and the centre of the Saurashtra region. Auto parts and foundry and casting work are among its industries.
The government press release of 27 July 2023, issued for the inauguration, says an interim terminal building was built so the airport could operate with its completed airside infrastructure. The same release says a new terminal building was under construction then, and that the interim terminal would become the cargo terminal once the new one was finished.
India Seatrade News reported on 10 February 2025 that passenger operations were moving from the interim terminal to the new terminal from 9 February 2025. An AAI tender document of June 2025 names a New Integrated Terminal Building at the airport, with a security hold area on its first floor.
When the airport was inaugurated on 27 July 2023, it had a parking area for cars and two-wheelers.
A Government of India release of June 2022 put Hirasar about 30 km from Rajkot city, on the Rajkot-Ahmedabad highway.
The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) publishes the list of photo identity documents accepted at terminal entry, carried in original with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among them.
The CISF says an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof does not need a separate document, but an unaccompanied minor does. Airlines may ask for more, and foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.
The CISF allows liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions.
The CISF's list of items banned from cabin baggage includes lighters, knives other than round-bladed, butter and plastic ones, sporting goods such as bats and golf clubs, tools such as hammers and screwdrivers, and firearms and explosives. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries are to be carried in hand baggage only and not placed in overhead bins, and that using or charging power banks is not allowed during flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.

The DGCA sets out what airlines offer when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to 5 hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not require meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.
If a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours from its published departure time, or from a revised time communicated more than 24 hours before the original departure, the airline offers either an alternate flight within six hours or a full refund. For a delay of more than 24 hours, or more than six hours for a flight scheduled to depart between 2000 and 0300 hours, the airline provides hotel accommodation when necessary, including transfers.
When a flight is cancelled, the airline provides for an alternate flight or a refund, and a passenger who was not told in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking. The CAR does not require compensation for a cancellation caused by extraordinary circumstances, and it says an airline need not pay compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks.
You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision and your airline's current rules before you rely on this.
