Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport (IXU) is the airport for Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (Aurangabad) in Maharashtra, about 11 kilometres from the city's railway station. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) runs it, and India's Aeronautical Information Publication (AIP) still uses the name Aurangabad Airport.

Identity and security at Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar Airport
Identity documents
To enter the terminal building you carry one valid photo identity document in original, with a valid ticket. A passport, Aadhaar or m-Aadhaar, a voter photo identity card and a driving licence are among the documents the CISF accepts.
On the CISF list, an infant or minor travelling with a parent or guardian who holds valid identity proof needs no separate document, while an unaccompanied minor does need one. Airlines may ask for more than the CISF list. Foreign nationals should ask their airline which document it accepts for a domestic flight.
Liquids, medicines and power banks
The CISF's restricted-articles list allows liquids, aerosols and gels in cabin baggage in containers of up to 100 ml each, packed in one clear, resealable one-litre plastic bag. Medicine or an inhaler accompanied by a prescription, and baby food, are exceptions. Lighters, metal scissors with pointed tips, sporting goods such as bats and golf clubs, and firearms are among the items barred from cabin baggage.
A Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) circular dated 11 November 2025 says power banks and spare batteries go in hand baggage only, not in overhead bins, and that power banks may not be used or charged during the flight. Ask your airline about any limit on their size or number.
Ajanta, Ellora and other sights: distances and closing days
Ellora Caves
The Ellora Caves are about 35 kilometres from the airport. The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) lists them as a World Heritage Site and describes Buddhist, Brahmanical and Jaina groups of caves in the Charanandri hills, made in three phases from the 6th to the 12th century, with the Kailasa temple in the Brahmanical group. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) opens Ellora from sunrise to sunset and closes it on Tuesdays.
Ajanta Caves
The Ajanta Caves are about 107 kilometres north of the city, much further out than Ellora. UNESCO lists them as a World Heritage Site: caves excavated out of a vertical cliff above the left bank of the river Waghora, in two phases about four centuries apart (about the 2nd to 1st century BCE, then the 5th to 6th centuries CE), with Buddhist rock-cut architecture, sculpture and mural paintings. The ASI closes Ajanta on Mondays; check the ASI's Ajanta Caves page before you go.
The two sites close on different days, so if you plan to see both, keep Ajanta off a Monday and Ellora off a Tuesday.

Delays, cancellations and your rights
The DGCA sets out what airlines owe passengers when a flight is delayed or cancelled, or a passenger is denied boarding, in its Civil Aviation Requirement (CAR) Section 3, Series M, Part IV, Revision 4, dated 25 January 2023 and effective from 15 February 2023. If you checked in on time, the airline provides meals and refreshments once a delay is expected to reach two hours or more on a flight with a block time of up to 2.5 hours, three hours or more on a flight of more than 2.5 and up to five hours, and four hours or more on a longer flight. The CAR does not require meals, refreshments or hotel accommodation where the delay is caused by extraordinary circumstances that could not have been avoided even if all reasonable measures had been taken.
If a domestic flight is expected to be delayed by more than six hours from its published departure time, or from a revised time communicated more than 24 hours before the original departure, the airline offers either an alternate flight within six hours or a full refund. For a total delay of more than 24 hours, or more than six hours on a flight scheduled between 2000 and 0300 hours, the CAR also requires hotel accommodation when necessary, with transfers.
When a flight is cancelled, the airline arranges an alternate flight or a refund, and a passenger who was not told in time is offered either an alternate flight, or compensation under the DGCA's rules on top of a full refund. Compensation is not due to a passenger who gave the airline no email address or phone number at booking. The CAR does not require compensation for a cancellation caused by extraordinary circumstances, and it says an airline need not pay compensation for cancellations and delays clearly attributable to air traffic control, weather or security risks.
You can complain to the airline directly, file a grievance on the Air Sewa app or portal, or go to a statutory body or court. Check dgca.gov.in for a later revision, and your airline's current rules, before you rely on this.
